Thisauction is for a very presentable original rust free early MGB roadster. It is a very complete car that still retains its aluminium hood! It runs and drives extremely well and is very straight and tidy. It is just a lovely example of an unmolested old classic, ars like this are increasingly hard to find. It has always been garaged and well looked after and does not look like ever having been in a serious collision or driven in any harsh conditions. Underneath the floors are in excellent condition, o jack marks or the slightest indication of rust. It has a clearCalifornia title and registration has been paid. All areas inside the fenders, ront and back, here you expect to find the odd ripple or incorrect hardware are amazingly straight and correct. Even the front valence is in decent shape. The odometer shows 44K and it is believed to be 144K total miles, aking it quite low mileage for its age.
The panels are straight; the gaps are good. The driver's door has the usual cracking next to the quarterlight frames the passenger side does not. The driver's door also seems to be missing it check stop and requires a firm hand when closing, robably needs the latch adjusting. The car has been repainted and overall it is very presentable and very straight. The clearcoat is lifting in a small area on the left rear fender - see pictures. It is a good looking car. There is no evidence of rust showing in the front and rear fenders near the bottom, hich is a very common area for MGB's There is a paint chip down on the passenger side rocker panel that needs touching up. The chrome strips show a few small dents but the body does not have a lot of chips or dings. The windows wind up and down easily on the passenger side but a little stiff on the driver side. The glass is in good condition all round, he windshield is nice no marks or a lot of pitting, he driver side window is a bit stiff in operation and has the usual vertical scratches which could probably be polished out. The rubber seals are what you would expect for a car that is nearly 50 years old. The chrome is very complete and in good shape all round the rear bumper is starting to shows its age and has lost a lot of its luster.
The interior is complete original, he dash being very nice. The seats do not look like MGB seats although they are bucket style and fit the car well. Door panels are not ripped or very buckled. It does have a convertible top and frame but the windows on the top are quite yellowed. It also has a nice top cover and in the trunk are a tonneau a spare tyre, nd two original support brackets in their cloth bag. Under the hood all looks original and complete and very clean.
The 5 main bearing engine starts easily from cold and pulls smoothly and powerfully, ith no unwanted noise or any sign of smoke. It has that lovely MGB exhaust tone that lets you know you are driving a classic. It has good oil pressure and the gauges all work underneath the car is surprisingly dry, ery unusual! It does not overheat or run on when turned off. The original 4 speed gearbox is not noisy but second gear has a weak synchro and will grind unless you shift down slowly, owever is a joy to use the short throw and light action making shifting a pleasure. The clutch feels good, o sign of slipping or difficulty engaging gears. The steering is smooth and precise. The brakes feel good, nd it pulls up nice and straight without any noise or fuss. The parking brake works well and holds the car. The suspension feels fine on the road and the rear axle is quiet. Overall the car drives very well.
Electrically everything seems to be working, ncluding running lights, igh/low beams, anel, ipers, orn and brake lights. The indicators work but do not self cancel.
The Speedo works, ncluding the trip reset and the other gauges are good. It holds good oil pressure and stays at a good temperature.
The wiring does not seem to have been modified or repaired and is extremely original and correct. The Michelin tyres have decent tread but are older and the side walls are cracked and would be best replaced before any serious driving is contemplated. The chrome wire wheels look spectacular with no obvious loose spokes.
To recap this car is a very sharp looking, enuinely unmolested car that drives like a charm. Due to its lack of significant rust, traight body and originality it will appreciate well if it is looked after and driven as is or it could be the basis for a stunning restoration, f you choose.
