Car description |

This 1969 Mercury Cyclone would be a nice survivor if it wasn't for being repainted back in the 80's. This Cyclone runs and drives. It can be driven the way she is or taken off the road and restored. Its a North Carolina car that was in indoor storage since 1997. The car was found in VA, ot far from NC, o the car has never seen road salt from what I can observe, ue its condition. Mileage shows 31,628 but prob add a 1, r it could be original due to the condition of the interior and body.
According to the Marti this particular Cyclone came with: Body Side Stripe, lock, 70x14 Oval Belted White Sidewalls, onsole, ower Front Disc Brakes, ower Steering, ir Conditioner-Whisperaire, M Radio, ear Seat Speakers, inted Glass Complete, nterior Decor Group. The clock had been replaced with aoriginal Cyclonetach, he original clock is missing.
Interior: All the interior is present as the day it left the factory. Condition: the package tray has had a thin layer of carpet added over the carbora but looks good, ll the deluxe belts are present and the back belts are also present. The dash pad is free from cracks and the carpet is still original but shows well. I also will include a new set of carpet with the car. The front door panels are free from damage but the chrome adhesive is starting to peel along the panel and the deluxe door cups are also peeling and have been removed but come with the car. The rear panels are ok. The rear seats are in good shape and have no sings of damage. The rear arm rests are ok. The headliner and visors are free from damage. The front buckets are also free from any damage. Both kick panels are not cracked as well.
Electronics: All lights work, lashers, urn signals, ll heater controls, ome light, ourtesy light under passenger leg area, orn is inop, adio in incorrect Ford but 2 am ones come with the car.
Wheels: The front tires are worn due to a bad alignment and will need replaced once the car is aligned. The original argent wheelsare present but the wrongcenter caps are installed, uppose to be the plain cap. There is a spare with the car and the original jack. The trunk even has a factory courtesy light in the trunk that works.
Exterior Glass and Trim: All the Sun X glass is present and free from chips with the exception of the front windshield that has a few small chips and appears not be an original Ford part. All trim and moldings are on the car but will refurbished as they are showing their age. The weather stripping is original and will need addressed in the future. Both bumpers are present, he rear is straight and free from pitting and the front is free from pitting but has been banged into things over the years along the bottom and will need some straightening. The front eye brows are free from damage and pitting. The hood lip molding is free from damage and pitting. All wheel well moldings are present and free from damage. The tail light bezels are pitted as well as the rear trim panel. The quarter window trim shows well but has some very light pitting. All stainless will need polished.
Drivetrain: The original C6 tag is missing from what I can see but it does have the cast iron tail shaft which is correct for the CJ cars. The rear axle tag is not visible. The original gears were 3:00 but have been changed to a set of original Ford posi 3:50's. About theengine, can say right away that these original parts are missing the carburetor (car has a C7OF-9510-A carb which is for a 67 390) and smog system. As far as a numbers matching engine, t is date coded correctly and under this assumption I would say its the original engine. Water Pump is currently a NAPA brand but acorrect date codedC9AE-8505-A comes with the car with a rebuild kit for it, eads are C8OE-6090-N with a date code of 8K28, lock is date code 8K28 as well, orrect Exhaust Manifolds 9431 and 9430, orrect AC Compressor C9AA-2875, istributorhas been changed over to electronic with the points only be removed, an be changed back.Correct intake manifold C8OE-9425-C. All the A/C lines are still on the car andso isthe evaporator core but I have not tried to get the system checked to see if it will hold Freon. I do not see any signs that the motor has been apart with the exception of the water pump being changed by me due to a bad shaft and valve cover gaskets, he cork was leaking something fierce. Exhaust as I mentioned has the correct manifolds but after that the car has glass packs. Some of the original rear hangers are in place.
Underneath-The floors were undercoated at sometime so this has prevented rust to the floors. The rails are alsorust free as well as the torque boxes. The trunk floorhas only light scale due to moisture from the inside, o visible holes. The rear inner wheel wells do not have any visible holes. The drop downs are also rust free but at first glance they look like the have rust but its the undercoating beginning to peel off. The fender apronsare ok as well asboth shock towers, o holes cut or beat in. The battery tray is also rust free. The front rails and radiator support is also rust free.
Suspension: The car sits level and does not have the typical Torino or Cyclone rear sag. New shocks on the back and the front sway bar bushings and ends links have been changed. The ball joints and tie rods are all tight and are not blown. Brakes are good and have plenty of material left. The steering is a little loose and I can see play in the gear box. The steering cylinder boot is torn but I plan on changing it this week.
Body: The body is rust free but does have chips in the paint, ven where there are chips in the paint there is no rust scale on the chips. There is a long scratch on the drivers rear quarter. There are some color blemishes on the paint from something sitting on the paint for along period of time. Over the car shows well but could use a paint job sometime down the road or just driven as is. The passenger side sport mirror is notpart of the factory option purchased for this carbut is a correct 69 mirror for a Cyclone/Torino.
All in all withvery few Cyclone CJ's being builtits definitely worth the time and money to bring her back. And this one stands apart from most Cyclones as having factory candy apple red paint code. Add the 428 CJ and you have one rare muscle car. You never see Cyclones at a car show. I have tried to be honest but I am human and do miss things, o please ask questions. I do not write 2 sentences and expect the buyer to figure out, ouldn't want that done to me. So please ask questions if you think you have them or if I missed something. I also have over 125 photos on photo bucket. Clear Ohio title. The cars does drive but it has only been driven local around 20 miles each trip, o I would advise on transporting the car. I have listed all the pics Ebay will let me but have also loaded more here http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Josh_Kupka/library/Red%20Cyclone%20428?sort=3&page=1
