The automobile is the perfect technological symbol of American culture, a tangible expression of our quest to level space, time, and class and a reflection of our relentless mobility, social and otherwise. You see automobiles advertised the world over described as California cars because at some point they were in California or drove through California. By 1979 the kids grew out of the house and the family wagon was relegated to the garage for the next 40 years. The Colony Park was Ford, Lincoln/Mercurys top of the line wagon, and it showed in period advertising: "If Lincoln Continental made a wagon, this would be it." Priced at a healthy $3760, the Colony Park distinguished itself from the more pedestrian Commuter wagon with its plank-style woodgrained paneling. Mercury also distinguishedthe Colony Parkas a much smoother ride by replacing the rear leaf spring configuration with a coil spring live axle setup.VIN DECODE:76= Colony Park 4 doorX=390cid V8 2bbl71E= 4 door 6 PassengerN=Diamond BluePB=Dark and Light Blue Vinyl7=3.25:1 gear ratio53= Oakland DSO Cosmetically this Mercury is in great shape for a 51 year old family wagon.
