Car description

1954 MERCURY MONTEREY CONVERTIBLE TECHNICAL INFORMATION This Mercury Monterey Convertible found it's way to me from the Ramshead Collection Museum located in Sacramento, California. A few years back it was the Ramshead Collection car of the month. The Ramshead Collection is a private Museum in Sacramento designed by Sherman Warren. After a complete mechanical rebuild and an original repaint and re-chrome of all the trim, this car was displayed in the Ramshead Museum for many years. This car remains listed in the Ramshead Collection web site under "View the Collection-Gone but not Forgotten" sub title. The California "Black Plate" remains on the car. I was unable to trace the plate back to the original owner but it appears that we were the second private owner of the car. It came to us in beautiful condition with not a trace of rust or previous damage history. A true Museum Piece of Automotive history. It came with the original 256 CI. Y block 161 hp engine which was replaced with a new 1957 Ford Thunderbird engine increasing hp by dyno measured 73% at 278.5 hp. Dyno graphs available for inspection. The 1954 Mercury Monterey was the first Mercury to introduce the Y Block configuration overhead valve engine and the three speed "Mercomatic Transmission." This Mercury Monterey Convertible is a very rare American Classic; only 7293 examples were produced and this is the 2880th car built in Los Angeles. This car has an in-dash clock that resists keeping time in spite of two new quartz replacements, an original push button radio, a working heater and defroster/ventilator controlled by air craft style levers. The interior of this car is all original excepting the interior carpeting which was replaced by new Red German velour carpet and sound deadening pad. The fuel, amps, temperature and oil pressure gauges and 110 mph speedometer all work well. We added Mustang II type front suspension; Viking Performance adjustable shocks, coil over springs and front disc brakes. Also replaced rear brakes and shocks. All power equipment enjoyed getting new motors: power equipment includes Power windows, Power steering, Power brakes, Power seats and power new top-all work as new. Pertronix Electronic ignition with Flame Thrower Coil. We wired 6 Optima 6v batteries in parallel to produce 6.5v and lots of amps for starting power. New Diamond Back Radial wide white wall tires were added < 100 miles ago: Front 215/75R/15---Rear 235/75R/15 all four with wide white walls and beauty bars. Much more tech info at www.hmn.com/2249611 This car drives as if it were on rails. It drives and stops straight and smooth. Never in snow & no smoking. It can be used as a trophy grabbing show car or abitchin well performing every day driver. Age of owner (86) and a long list of infirmities forces sale. As new, none better. Price at $69,850 or make a reasonable offer. No trades. U.S. dollars only.
