1964 Mercury Park Lane Marauder
Rare - only 3658 made
The Park Lane was the top of the line Mercury with lots of luxury options. The Marauder was the high performance model. This car has both - the luxury with the performance. This car was ordered as a 4 door hardtop fastback, instead of the more common flat rear window Breezeway model. What makes it even more special is that is has buckets seats with a floor shift console. It is equipped with a 300 HP 390 4BBl engine, automatic multi-drive, and 3.00:1 rear axle. It has power everything and even factory cruise control!
This Mercury was in the same family for over 50 years. It spent the last 20 years in an indoor storage unit. The family got tired of paying the storage fees and sold the car to me. My intention was to restore the car, but I have since found a 1957 Chevy project car that I have decided to do instead. Some of the pictures show the car being removed from the storage unit and being loaded onto a flatbed truck.
Mechanical
The car has not been started since being put into the storage unit 20 years ago. I was told it drove into the unit and was mechanically fine at that time. However, after sitting so long you can expect it will need a carb rebuild, gas tank flush, brake overall, all fluids changed etc. I have turned the car over by hand, so it is not froze, but I did not attempt to start as I would want to change oil and prime the cylinders and valve train before attempting. The car rolls freely (brakes not froze) and tires hold air.
Interior
Seats, dash pad and headliner are all in good shape (see pictures). It is missing one piece of the dash above the console. Carpet is old and faded. Door panels are missing, however all the components of the door panels (chrome trim, wood inserts, handles etc) are in a box. New panels were being made but never got done and then got lost by previous owners.
Body
The color is the original Medium turquoise metallic. Very straight body with some rust. There is some bondo in the quarters from a previous repair. The worse area is the trunk pan which is totally rusted out - strange. Floors have a couple spots on the driver's side but passenger side is solid. If not for the trunk, I would say the body is in very good condition. The good thing is that the replacement pan would be easy to make as it is very flat. The rest of the body is in very good shape.
I hate selling this car, but hope it goes to a Mercury/Ford lover that will give it the restoration it deserves. Very rare and unusual car - be the only one at a car show!
Some extra/new parts included as well
Please only bid if you intend on buying it
