1965 Mercury Comet Caliente Convertible - 124K orig miles, high performance 289 V8, NorCal car since new, FSBO
Up for auction is an excellent condition Comet Caliente Convertible that belongs to a good friend of mine who needed my assistance in selling the vehicle which is located in Sonoma, CA. He is the 3rd owner and purchased from another close friend who owned the car for many years. The Comet was sold new in 1965 to the first owner in Menlo Park, CA, and included in the sale are the original owners manual and misc service docs. On the owners manual (see photos) there are handwritten service notes from the original owner that date the high performance 289 V8 being installed in 1981 at 67K miles. Even the original license plate frame is in the trunk!
The car was re-painted at some point and is in great condition aesthetically and mechanically. The body is straight and pretty much dent-free with the exception of one small (easy repairable) dent that I've photographed and is hard to tell in the photo.. it's that small. The front driving light on the passenger side is bent on the top, but again, easily fixed as the body around it unaffected. That is also photographed. There are the normal wear and tear nicks, but overall great condition for a 53 year old classic vehicle.
The convertible top powers perfectly up and down and is in excellent condition.
The interior has the original clear plastic covers, and underneath is a beautiful all-original excellent condition set of seats! It's fairly evident these covers have been on the seats since this car was new. The carpet is in excellent condition, and overall the interior is in very good shape. The dash has a few blemishes, small creases from age, but as you can see in the photos the dash cover is in place which matches the interior. That too has most likely been in place for a very long time. I have taken photos with and without it. The factory A/C does NOT work at this time.
The car was just serviced this week by a local mechanic that I take my vehicles to and has worked with family and friends for many years. This was a routine service, oil change, and mechanic says everything looks good, drives great, nothing leaking, etc. the car is definitely 'road-worthy'.
We will assist the winning bidder however we can with regard to any inspections and shipping, etc., and if you have questions please message me and I can put you in touch with the owner directly.
Thanks for looking, and good luck!
