Car description |
---|
Please read the entire description as I have done my best to describe everything about this vehicle. . ...
1993 Mercury Capri XR2 (What the Mazda Miata [mx5 mx-5] should have been but wasn't)
This vehicle was built as a joint venture between Ford Motor Company and Mazda and was sold in the United States in model years 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994.
It was also sold as the Ford Capri in other countries (specifically Australia and parts of Europe)
I am not a mechanic so it is pointless for me to try to explain all of the subtle similarities and differences between the Miata and Capri so if you are serious about this vehicle and want to know more I will let you do your own due diligence and research so that I am not swaying you toward why to buy a Capri over the Miata.
The motor is a Mazda 1.6L similar to the first generation Miata's. The XR2 model came with a factory turbo (and in my opinion much needed spoiler)
This vehicle is front wheel drive versus the rear drive Miata which makes it more desirable to many people (especially in bad weather areas or young drivers will be driving it)
********************************************************************************************************************************
This particular car I have only owned for a few months and honestly only had it because I already own a 1992 and took pity on someone who was short on money.
I was purchasing another item from Craigslist at the owners home and saw this Capri sitting in their driveway. The owner was desperate for money to pay for medical bills and as much as I would like to say I bought the car off of him because I have a big heart for people the truth is I have a bigger heart for cars and this cute little convertible needed someone to own it that would give it the love it deserved.
Since then my son and I have gone through and changed the oil, buffed the paint, replaced the front brakes, purchased a replacement stereo (not installed yet) and a handful of other small repairs that are hardly worth mentioning.
As much as I would love to keep both the driveway is only so big and my wife (and 16 year old daughter who is shopping for an SUV) have given me an ultimatum so I have no choice but to part with a couple cars and this is one of them.
The car starts right up....even if you let it sit for a 2-3 weeks.
Turbo seems to spin up properly
Transmission shifts properly
Brakes are good (and will likely be better once it is driven more regularly)
Tires have less than 500 miles on them
The drivers side window does not go down but I believe it is just the switch because the switch will not move the passenger side either yet if you use the passenger switch it works fine.
The convertible top should be replaced in my opinion but if only driving on warm days and storing it indoors perhaps not a concern right away (worse than in picture....back window 3/4 separated now)
The trunk latch is not attached to the car. All of the parts on the lid are there so you would need the bottom piece for it to latch.
Other than that it has bumps and bruises and stains as you would expect from a car that is now 23 years old.
I am also including pictures of some aftermarket wheels I purchased to put on my 1992 that were from a Miata but I never did. The fronts would bolt right on but you would need spacers for the rear to clear the struts (my mechanic estimated 1/2 inch should be sufficient but he would go 1" for handling) If you would like these wheels as well they would be an extra $500 on top of the purchase price of the vehicle.
If it makes the transaction go easier I can pick you up from the airport at SNA, LGB, or LAX and you can make this a disneyland trip before you head home.
Willing to help in any way to get this "cousin" of our 92 to a good home so please let me know how I can help. I would be willing to deliver it anywhere in the US or Canada for $1.00 per mile providing everything was paid up front (I am helpful not stupid).
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS VEHICLE IS ALSO FOR SALE LOCALLY.
