The Mercury Comet is an automobile that was produced by Mercury from 1960-1969. The Comet was initially based on the compact Ford Falcon. As a Mercury, arly Comets received better grade interior trim than concurrent Falcons, his is the first year the car carried Mercury badging. The S-22 option package offered a few niceties, ncluding special badging on the car's exterior, n the hubcaps, nd on the dash and steering wheel. It also included bucket seats with a center console. Other notable features to the S-22 are the stainless steel trim that runs from front to back on both sides of the car, he chrome gills on the quarter panels and, he six rear taillights (three on each side) as opposed to four rear taillights. This S-22 has the optional 170-cu.in. engine which makes a claimed 105 hp.
While the 1963 model looked almost identical to the earlier models, he chassis and suspension were redesigned to accommodate an optional V-8 engine. Convertible and hardtop (pillarless) coupe models were added to the Comet Custom and Comet S-22 lines this year.
This S-22 (Code 76B) example is equipped with a 1 barrel carbureted, 70 cid inline 6 cylinder engine coupled to a 2-speed automatic transmission, emperature gauge inoperable, actory power convertible top factory bucket seats, actory center console and loop carpet. Also included, s the original new car delivery paperwork from the dealership (Jack Fagen, nc.) to the original owner on March 30, 963! And if that wasn't enough, ow about the original record/journal book from 1963 to 2013 passed on to each new owner! Extensive service/history records and receipts, arts catalogs, agazines articles and even the original owner's manual!
These Mercury series S-22 Comets are becoming increasingly hard to find in such solid well kept condition. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
