1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser
This is the one—Tired of the Tri 5 chevys or Fords—Well the 1957 Mercury TurnPike Cruiser surely fills the bill—for rarity and eyeball appeal—When is the last one you've seen? Most of the "Gadget Cars from the 50's either rusted out or were thrown away—Didn't make that many. 7000 2 drs produced and most scrapped--few left.
With the 368 motor (same as used in the Mrk II Lincolns) the have the power when needed. The '57 Turnpike was a purpose built car—where the 58 was a Montclair. All Power with an electric rollup rear window, ual antennas out the front of the roof for fresh air—Vents. And a square top 2 tone steering wheel.
So, his car an older restoration—From a very original no rust California car, t had not been driven since 1982 with the Black plates in the trunk and that is the last sticker date on the plates. The the original metal floors (interior) are as perfect, ike new, ith original blue factory paint--look at the spare tire well------I bought it years ago on the original black original plates--and just registered with new plates--have old California black plates in trunk. Its an original California car have copy of original title, nd original black plates in trunk--. The motor runs great 368 turnpike motor (out of body compression checks and refresh)--front suspension done, ook at the very clean undercarriage-- new gas tank, arb, hocks, new dual exhaust. All moldings removed and polished, nd chrome redone. Conti kit is fine, nbsp;light blue paint on the kit is the original paint. -- no spare in the trunk as its in the Conti kit. The trunk spare well is original color and no signs of rust ever, ven Clock works as do all gauges.
Original color repaint (light blue and white) and then the dark blue lower to set off the whole car. Interior is vinyl and redone with original fabric combo and the top of the back seat with the turnpike logo in it is the original. All the dark blue on the seats are Original. Headliner and carpets as well as the dash--All instruments work even the clock. The speedo was rebuilt (hence 00130) as were all gauges--and reflects few miles, fter restoration—
