Car description

This is one of the last and rarest Mercedes of the old school from the pre 1996 era. Hand assembled. This car is a joy to drive. The W-126 chassis is considered by many. me included. as among the best this company ever made. This series helped introduce Anti-Lock brakes and Airbags to the American marketplace. The build quality and workmanship of this car is different from Mercedes today. Today's cars have the technology. This car has a structural integrity. build standard and reasonable reliability (despite the high cost of maintenance and high mileage). that makes no apologies for many contemporary mass produced cars. The W-126 series of Mercedes cars are very undervalued. This car cost. in 1990. $81. 00. The proof of their quality are many that are on the road today of the four door type. However you do not see these coupes every day. Only 1. 46 were made for the USA in 1990 making it one of the rarest Mercedes in America. Therefore. lowballers do not waste your time or mine. Your offer will be rejected. A difference between me and many other sellers in this community is honesty and I value my feedback. Not everyone will be as frank. This car is solid and in very good condition for its age. The car though needs a lot of work to bring to fully restored mechanical status and safety is now an issue. These problems must be addressed immediately and without hesitation. I want you happy. At the moment the car still drives very well and is like a 747 on the highway. As you can see by the pictures. the overall body is in near excellent condition for its age and the car has not been in any major accidents. The issues are age related wear and easily remedied with some issues optional when it comes to repair and not vital to the operation of the car. This car was originally sold with air suspension but that was disconnected years ago and many owners of these cars do the same. The result is greater road feel without giving up the overall comfort of long distance driving. You do not want to deal with that air suspension unless you are prepared to spend a great deal of money. It is superfluous. Specs:238 HP. 4 gears. automatic transmission. air bag. anti-lock brakesHistory:Purchased new in 1990 by customer at Prestige Motors in New Jersey. Mechanic on the car (circa 2005) purchases and restores it with new transmission and any engine related work. I am the third owner and have owned it for nearly five years. The car has been maintained by one mechanic for its entire history and full documentation is available from said mechanic and communication. Ask me in a private message and that number will be provided. What’s good: replaced exhaust. Michelin tires. newer alternator. replaced idle computer relay. functioning heat and air conditioning. very good interior. after market stereo with cd player and trunk subwoofer. replaced oem front light bezel on the driver’s side. does not leak a tremendous amount of oil. operable sunroof. replaced radiator. brakes not at replacement point as of this day. Transmission solid. What’s not: Needs immediate replacement of front tie rods. connecting rod and all rubber bushings. The amount of give on the tires is mild but getting worse. Minor rust spots as photographed. head gasket (common problem). weak cruise control. tune up. front light wiper motors not functional (this is not a mandatory fix). minor weakness with one rear window motor. rear antenna out (again not a mandatory fix). weak fuel pump but still strong after standard temperature reached. missing buttons on driver’s side door for seat movement. passenger side seat belt needs work and the electronic arm is not functioning normally and the tubes that connect the windshield wipers need connecting. The belt system has bypassed one area that has something to do with heat generation that does not affect safety or operations. the front passenger side lower light is intact but pushed in and the trunk does have scratches. Terms of Sale:Strongly prefer personal pick up and inspection. Please do not ask me to break ebay’s rules or to adjust selling price for tax purposes. It is not going to happen. Shipping is fine as long as buyer agrees that any risk. fees or insurance needed to accomplish this will be paid in full and is the responsibility of the buyer. The car is sold as is where is with no guarantees or warranty expressed or implied. There will not be a refund and winning bidder acknowledges these terms with payment and without exception. It is the responsibility of the buyer to do any and all research on the vehicle and contact my mechanic to make a final decision. Payment is by cash or bank issued check only that needs to clear in full before delivery. I will not accept paypal or any other form of payment. I am selling this car very reluctantly because it has been the best contemporary classic I have ever driven. It is. however time for a change. I thank you for reading this and hope you find the car of interest.
