This is one of the most outstanding examples of the Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 cabriolet available. The restoration, which was completed in 2019, is without fault and done by two of the best 3.5 restorers in the industry.
Black Forest did the mechanical restoration and the Last Detail did the cosmetic. The result is one of the best 3.5 cabriolets in the country. The is a US specification car with full ownership history and a full file of receipts detailing the restoration.
The car was purchased new and then traded in 1976 to its second owner. That owner kept the car driving it sparingly until 2005 when they sold the car to Hyman LTD in St. Louis, MO. The car was a rust free and low mile original car. Hyman LTD then sold the car in 2006 to a gentleman in Wisconsin who intended to keep the car forever.
He maintained the car at one of the best Mercedes exerts in the USA, Black Forest. All of the receipts from their maintenance of the car are included with the car. Hundreds of thousands were spend on the car including full mechanical restoration done starting in 2015. In March of 2019, the car was given to Last Detail to do all of the cosmetic restoration on the car and no corner was cut in the nut and both refurbishment of the car. It was completed in September and the result was arguably one of the finast US specification examples in existence.
Not only did they focus on cosmetics, they focused on usability. Everything was restored to fully functional standards including little stuff like the clock, the air conditioning which operated on original R-12, the power antenna, everything. As a result, this car is a totally sorted concours level car which you can drive to any event and expect to win a major award.
In 2020, ownership had the car re-detailed and serviced by a marque AND model expert in preparation of this sale over the course of four months and substantial cost. This car is gorgeous, accurate, reliable and detailed incredibly accurately.
The car comes with all receipts from Last Detail, Black Forest, its original owners manual with all of the supplements, original tool roll, original jack, spare, and a complete certification by Mercedes-Benz Classic with build card, letter and options specification sheet.
I have hundreds more pictures of the car I can email you and online. It is viewable at Dragone Classic In Orange CT for inspection and test drives. There are no disappointments with this car
Companies like Brabus do nut and bolt restorations mostly of euro specification cars, have a years long waiting list and a price tag when done per car approaching $750,000 US.. This is a high 900's point car that is a US specification car, the right options and all of the proper certification and documents. There is simply not another floor shift US spec example as nice for sale.
