Mercedes Benz
500 SEL Sedan

VIN: WDBCA37D9FA185039

If you’ve followed my Ebay vehicle auctions the past ten or twelve years you’ve noticed we get a fair number of great vintage Benz sedans on a regular basis. A local owner passed this classic boulevard cruiser along several weeks ago and after spending a few minutes behind the wheel I was sold on it as a nice daily driver or a great road trip vehicle. The longer wheelbase of the W126 SEL chassis gives greater access to the rear seat, too. Because most of the original books came with the title, we know the car was purchased new at Hoehn Motors in Carlsbad California on 9/18/1985 by the owner of a San Diego publishing company. The vehicle was regularly dealer serviced there until it’s arrival in the Northwest. All the original dealer books and records you see pictured will arrive in their plastic factory folio; safely locked away in the glove compartment.

Please feel free to email, text or call me with any questions. My direct phone number is 206/914-1173 and my name is Mark. You’re welcome and encouraged to stop by my Auburn, WA warehouse to inspect the car and take it out on the road.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Ever driven a vintage S-Class Mercedes with the powerful, bullet-proof 5.0-liter V8 engine? What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth, powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway, too. Comfort, style, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. I’ve always considered these W126 cars constructed through the early 90’s as some of the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have heard others say the same thing. Take a look at the photos and I’m sure you’ll agree with me; who doesn't love a sleek black classic Benz! All pics were taken on 10/03/20. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only. It’s obviously been allowed to spend a majority of its life garaged because the overall condition is considerably better than most any other 35-year-old daily driver you’re likely to encounter. Rust? Please, this Mercedes HATES rust and I haven’t found any here to worry about. Climb over, under and around this sedan, I know you’ll come up smiling! As a respected Ebay seller with many satisfied Ebay vehicle customers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this is a great car AND that it is being properly represented.
CONDITION:

In brief, this is a clean, smoke-free car. I take pride in these vehicles, feeling that you should know as much about them as possible before bidding. Accordingly, here’s a list of the good and also small things possibly to be sorted: Hop in, fire up the powerful V-8 engine and it starts immediately! The automatic transmission shifts crisply through all gears, just as it should. I feel the Mercedes idles, runs and drives as intended – immediate strong, steady oil pressure, a good battery and properly functioning charging system. After the thermostat opens at warm-up, the engine temperature is maintained at just over the 80-degree mark on the dash gauge, no matter whether it’s been idling in traffic or plying the freeway for hours. I’ve driven the SEL the past several weeks, cruised at 70 MPH and used it for my 15-mile round trip work commute. The factory-original solid black paint still holds a shine well. I find NO fading clearcoat, large scratches, front-end rock chips or any real paint flaws. The fenders, doors, rear quarters and floor pans are all solid. The windshield has zero cracks or chips. All four factory wheels are straight and true. They’re wrapped with TOYO 205/70R14 radials, each with at least 85-90% remaining tread.

Take another good look at the interior photos. The bisque leather upholstery and carpets are all-original with the pictures giving an accurate view of their great condition. Hop in and feel comfortable sitting on these power-adjusted bucket seats for hours. No sagging base or busted springs here! This SEL also has the power adjustable, heated rear bench seat. The dash gauges are as bright and true as the day the car left the Stuttgart factory. Though I don't believe the miles are accurate, both the odo and the Speedometer work correctly (the dash clock is the only gauge that doesn't). Both the push button heater and fan system work. The extra-large sunroof fully opens and closes smoothly with no visible leaks. All four power windows open and shut properly. I greatly appreciate the aftermarket digital stereo (don't know why Daimler has always had issues with their factory-installed Becker and Blaupunkt radios). You’ll find the jack, spare and factory tools stowed in the trunk well. Even the Mercedes first aid kit (it's never been opened) is still in the package shelf storage box. About the only issues left to be sorted are: the A/C doesn’t blow cold, though the system appears complete and might just benefit from a recharge. I sometimes feel a slight flutter from the ABS when braking hard. Since it doesn’t affect the operation, I’ve just lived with it. The truck lock was damaged sometime in the past and should be replaced. That’s about it. Please don’t be upset if I’ve missed some other flaw or a small amount needing to be spent fixing a problem I’m unaware of. No used car is ever perfect! Having said that, I think this Mercedes can be driven long-distance immediately.

Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! I’m happy to meet with your scheduled inspector if distance keeps you from stopping by for a test drive. Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, we reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on Ebay contact me before placing a bid. Finally, we reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed to before the end of the auction period. Please feel free to contact me directly thru Ebay’s system or, as outlined above, call or text me at 206/914-1173 anytime. My name is MARK.

A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:

The purchase price is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. I can accept credit or debit cards, but I’ll first need to send an invoice and would ask that you cover the 3.25% fee our processor (SQUARE) charges. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the Benz later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.

If you decide to have the car transported, there are scores of companies to choose from. I ship vehicles regularly and can post the Mercedes delivery on the Central Dispatch site offering shippers a reasonable fee after we’ve determined average cost to your area. The buyer would then just pay the transporter directly at arrival. No upfront deposit or other costs.

Many of my past bidders from as far away as Alaska, New England, California, Texas, Florida and even southern Mexico have flown in here to SeaTac International and then done a road trip home. I’m happy to meet you at the airport and drive you to my Auburn warehouse 7 miles away if you choose to do so.

TheMercedes can be stored free of charge at my location for up to 14 days after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
