For your viewing pleasure, I present to you my low mile 1972 Mercedes Benz 280sel 4.5. I bought this car about 3 years ago from a lady in Arizona, she was given the car upon her friends passing. The story goes that he was a music executive in Las Vegas and LA, he did have a unique stereo installed in the 1980s, supposedly to the tune of $12,000.00. I have not tried the stereo as I am missing the antenna and I haven't found a tape to test it. I was also told that there is a line in an Aerosmith song about this car, of course I could never verify this. When I bought this 4.5 it had been sitting in her garage for about a dozen years. I was told there was a problem with the transmission and the car had not started in years. This 4.5 was so clean, I decided to roll the dice and buy it without hearing it run. A friend and I loaded up this Mercedes and drug it back to New Mexico. Once there, I drained and replaced all the pertinentfluids and cleaned the gas tank, installed a new fuel filter, new battery, and spark plugs. Next, was the fire up! This car roared to life almost instantly, I watched it warm up to temperature, everything appeared to be working, the windows, sunroof, blinkers, headlights, interior lights, you name it. I was soecstatic! Then, the bad news, there was antifreeze coming out of the tail pipe Dang It! Of course, this meant a bad head gasket. So, I had both heads rebuilt using genuine Mercedes Benz parts, new timing chain, and tensioners, the works! The transmission turned out to be fine other than a rear seal leaking badly which was replaced. Some 3 years later this luxury flagship is ready for its next owner. The car is in great shape and shows very well, people always want to talk about it wherever you go. This SEL handles the road with ease and is one of the most comfortable drives, it's like driving a lazy boy on rails. This great machine has just over 81,000 miles and it comes with an "actual mile" title. This Mercedes has spent its life in Southern California, Las Vegas, Scottsdale and New Mexico. I have never seen any rust on this fine specimen, but of course there can be some surface rust here and there but nothing to note specifically. The air conditioning is not functioning, although you can hear the compressor kick on, I have never had it filled with Freon. If you are in the market for a super cool, rare vintage Mercedes, this could be it. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thanks and happy bidding!
