Binz & Company located in Lorch, Germany wasone of several coachbuilders. Many different versions were built by Binz,including ambulances, hearses, taxis and commercial delivery vehicles. This onewas built for private use, of which very few surviving examples are known to existin the world.The wagon starts, runs, drives, shifts and stops with no issues. The four cylindergas engine was rebuilt retaining the original block. All internal components werereplaced (pistons, connecting rods, rings, oil pump, timing chain, tensioner, etc.)as well as all seals and gaskets. The head was not repairable and was replaced.The replacement head was completely rebuilt. All ancillary components (starter,generator, water pump, fuel pump, distributor, carburetor, etc.) were eitherreplaced or rebuilt. The fuel tank and radiator were both reconditioned. Allhoses, spark plugs, belt, motor mounts and transmission mount were replaced.The braking system was refurbished. All hoses were replaced, as well as new rearwheel cylinders, master cylinder and fluid flush. The brake booster and frontcalipers were replaced with good used units.The front suspension is in good condition. The four speed manual transmission(column shift) is in good condition. The pilot bearing and throw-out bearing werereplaced. The clutch and pressure plate were fully serviceable. The wagon has allfive original ‘Adenauer’ 15 inch wheels with four new tires. The spare wheel doesnot have a tire.The body is in very good condition with extremely minor rust through. All jackports are intact and rust free. The only rust through is located on the left rockerpanel. The end cap is rusted and the very lower bottom of the fender has rust.The rest of the car is rust free. The surface areas of corrosion have been treatedwhere the paint has failed.All of the side glass, door glass and rear lift gate glass is original and in goodcondition. The windshield needs replacing. All trim and bright work is presentincluding front and rear bumpers.All of the lights, turn signals, horn, instruments and clock work. The originalBecker Europa TG radio is present but does not function. The car is equipped withan optional Webasto manual sunroof. The slides have been replaced and thesunroof is fully functional.The interior is complete with individual front seats and a folding rear bench seat.The cargo area floor hatch is present and in good condition. All four door cards,window cranks, ashtrays and door handles are present. The interior is originaland needs refurbishing.The original keys, tool kit, Owner’s manual, Parts Picture Catalog, ServiceBooklets, Service Stations manual with map and two original, date stamped datacards from Binz are present along with a copy of the Mercedes data card. Therear coat hanger which can be moved from side to side, is also present. Bothcoachbuilders’ badges are attached – one to each front fender. The stamped Binznumber plate is attached to the driver’s door jam.The odometer currently shows 83,882 miles. The last service recorded was inJuly, 1980 at 80,773 miles.Some spare parts such as new replacement tail light lenses, rocker end plate, etc.convey with wagon.
