1990 Mercedes Benz 300 TE, 3rd owner, 6 cyl gas (non-diesel) with 125k miles... You're looking, so I may as well tell you what you're seeing.
Want to got to Pebble Beach? This is a great car to get you there.Trust me, you won't win if you try to enter this dreamy estate.Feel like social distancing with 7 of your friends? Pile them in and go camping...or just go by yourself and relax in the HUGE amount of cargo room when the seats fold down.Need a truck but also want to look stylish, why not a wagon? This example is a 3rd owner, straight six with 124,846 on the odometer and still rolls through the countryside nicely, even if you have to haul a few things.
I purchased the car from the second owner, who worked for the original owner (and still does). This was a family car for the first 26 years of its life in New Jersey until it came to live with the second owner in CT in 2016.The car was used for a year until it was parked in the driveway. As I live close by I would see the mysterious shape of a station wagon but never new what it was until one day I passed by when the cover was off...
It didn't look to be in horrible shape but definitely need a little TLC.Being a sucker for wagons and anything out of that era which a blue interior..I drove it home that day.
The Good.No major flaws in body work outside a few rust spots (front driver fender, rear quarter panel, insider rear driver door) and a few cosmetic wear & tear from being driven in NJ.
- New:
- Rear Brake Calipers, Rotors, Pads
- CatBack Exhaust with a "Muffler Delete"
- 195/65/15 all seasons on the OEM 15"
- Alternator
- Voltage Regulator
- Headlight Bezel (clear lenses)
- Front Turn Signals (yellow lenses)
- Fuel Filter
- Rear Suspension: OEM Rear Springs; OEM Bilstien Shocks, Control Arm Link Kit (both sides), Sway Bar Links, Sub Frame Bushings
- Fuses (replaced entire panel)
- Guibo/Flex Disk
- Battery
- CD player/radio w/Aux
The Bad:
- A/C not working: This is a 30 year old car that is incredibly reliable.I drive it back and forth to VT (about 300 miles round trip) and around town with no issue..unless it's hot out. This beautiful example of a German Touring Estate is equipped with the old R12 A/C system and is low on juice. All signs indicate that the Compressor, evaporator, and valves are good I just can't seem to access the right refrigerant. 134a (also know as Freon) has a different pressure and will leak out of the system like a sieve...there are upgrades and sellers dealing with EnviroSafe R12, however, I just open the sun roof and drive faster to keep cool.
- Self Leveling Suspension: Hydraulic pump and actuator works; lines were cut and OEM hydraulic shocks were replaced with aftermarket H&R shocks and springs. If you put fluid in the pump; it’ll leak all over your driveway.I pulled the fuse to the pump and drained the reservoir.Car comes with two quarts of Hydraulic Fluid, just in case.
- Rear window regulator (windows do not go down, fuses are good..easy fix to install new regulators, just haven't had time)
The Ugly:
Thankfully there's no major rust issue here despite being a Northeast car, however there is rust.Read that again...there is rust.Nothing worrisome or crunchy, but there is some surface rust on the underside (as seen in photos).
There are no major issues with this car, unfortunately I have other priorities and given the current pandemic we don't need that many cars in the driveway.Car comes with the wheels you see in the trunk; a set of 1998 E Class 16" OEM rims.Feel free to reach out with questions, I have more pictures of the engine bay and interior that I couldn't fit into this ad.
Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
