Car description |
---|
1981 European Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL, approx. 77k miles (odometer stuck @ 76,349 after 3 years stored inoperable) outside. Very clean original condition, minor sun exposure limited to front & rear. dash. Minor cracks in front dash, rear window needs to be resealed(dry cracked seal from sun), new picture added. Leaks stopped with minimal slicone adhesive($200. Autolite professional repair estimate) Runs & drives like new after 2019 repairs. Everything works. Repaint is still very good, no accidents, no dents & only 2 owners. No Smog Equipment, Factory European. Car was stored since 2016 because of California emission laws, and revived a year ago. Only driven to mailbox weekly on private rural road since repair. Less than 500 miles. Replacement parts were purchased for cosmetic repairs(not installed) before I confirmed the smog issue, regarding euro car restrictions in CA, where I live. I bought this car to keep because it was unique and all original, despite previous owners smog warning. I didn't listen. Top bidder responsible for cash payment at time of pickup and all shipping/driving expenses. Sold As-Is, no smog, no warranty. Great Car for states with more lenient/no smog requirements or collectors/enthusiasts, smart enough to know what they're getting, enjoy doing their own work and not expecting a new 39 year old Mercedes 500 SEL for $2000.00. I have considerably more invested in this beautiful classic(Unfortunately, NOT LEGAL IN CA in it's ORIGINAL German condition). Relisted after first auction... 1st Top bidder didn't have the money, 2nd auction top bidder afraid of covid and the 3rd was an outright fraud. California import since new, affected by smog law changes 1984(stored most of it's life). While happy to answer relevant questions this magnificent automobile is exactly as described. Very presentable even with it's minor flaws. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. That said, I will comply with eBay rules and ANY MESSAGE REQUESTING SIDE DEALS WILL BE IGNORED. Messages ONLY answered through eBay. Thank you for your interest, please try to be honest and reasonable. Currently titled in AZ, but not registered, where smog requirements have also changed. I drive this beauty to the mailbox 1 or 2 times a week and there are no known mechanical issues. Drives like new. Everything is in working order with good glass, tires, brakes, engine, transmission, correct fluids and only octane boosted premium in the gas tank. NO RESERVE. I check messages and no question will go unanswered. Thank you and good luck to all legitimate bidders. On Jun-03-20 at 18:21:34 PDT, seller added the following information:
Please do some research before bidding. There are several states where the smog laws are tougher than here. This car would sail through a safety inspection, which is all that's required in many states, and it's age makes it exempt in others. Great car for the right location. Wish I could keep her.
On Jun-05-20 at 20:42:47 PDT, seller added the following information:I have just been informed that this car is referred to as a "gray market vehicle" and this detail needs to be disclosed. Still researching my options to keep or sell. I never recommend research without doing my own. Something else to consider when bidding unless you already knew from previous description. Something else called the Federal 25 year rule. ???
