Car description

Mercedes-Benz 380SL. No warranty or guarantees. I got it from an older lady who had the car sitting in a carport for past 10 years. It was going to be a project car but I do not have the time. Car starts. Running very rich. Fuel pump will hum loud and get hot. I think there is an obstruction in the fuel system that is impeding flow. The motor will not rev well, but it is not missing. The head gasket may have a leak. I am not sure, but the car is NOT driveable as it is. Hopefully will be a good project for someone. Here is a video walkabout and drive around my driveway:

Here are details:
  • Has 190k miles assuming correct speedo.
  • Car is solid w respect to frame and body. Very little rust, just a couple of spots and the underside looks great.
  • A couple of dings (looks like someone was shooting a bb gun at the driver side door.
  • Missing the passenger side door trim.
  • Has the hard top. The convertible soft top is brown, has a tear, and has some dry rot. The soft top needs to be replaced.
  • The interior is worn and needs work. The driver side seat latch is not working.
  • Electrical seems to work fine.
  • The fuel system was gummed up from 10 years of sitting. I cleaned the fuel lines and tank, replaced rubber fuel lines, replaced fuel pump, replaced fuel filter, replaced fuel tank filter, replaced fuel accumulator, replaced injectors, and had the fuel distributor and warm up regulator professionally rebuilt and balanced by Bosch certified mechanic ($1500 invested so far plus the elbow grease).
  • Replaced the spark plugs and air filter
  • Front suspension has a click sound.
  • Have not seen any leaks. The brake and power steering fluids are low, but I did not try to fill these, and probably related to sitting for 10 years.
  • Power steering is whining from low on fluids.
  • Brakes and really soft and need work.
  • AC/Heater blower not working. I think it’s the controller.
  • Transmission is shifting fine.
  • Driver window not working but Passenger works. Was working fine a month ago, probably the switch, I bought new window switches and will include.
  • Tires need to be replaced, dry rot. Has the original wheel rims. One is in the trunk, was flat, and have the spare on currently.
