Car description

1979 Mercedes 300CD

This lovely vehicle was a semi “garage find”. It is a single family owned vehicle and resided in Southern California for almost all of it’s life to this point.

As told to me by the Grandson of the owner, it was literally driven by a “Little old lady from Pasadena”.. or in this case Orange County until she quit driving in the late 80’s. At this point it became a garage fixture, and was more or less covered by a tarp. I was told that it was pulled out occasionally to run the engine and go through the gears, but I doubt it was too often.

To back up this story, there were a set of mismatched tires on it, but the DOT codes were from 1979 (clearly the spare placed on) and 1990. I was a little scared to drive on them, but they made it until I could get a new set of OEM Michellins in their place. I still have these tires, if you should want them for proof of the lineage.

A battery cut off switch was installed at one point or another to keep the battery up a little. While under our care, the car has sat for weeks at a time and hasn’t needed to be charged other than by the alternator. I have several of the previous owner’s receipts (see pics below)

We purchased this vehicle 9 months ago to drive and do some light restoration and renewal on. When the vehicle was picked up, other than having the above noted EXTREMELY old tires on it, it was a fantastic driver. It’s first trip was 4.5 hours over the Grapevine mountain range, and it bounded through the trip like the classy and gorgeous survivor it is.

Everything done has been documented below.

New OEM Michellin Tires

New Battery

New Solid State AC Control system

New Bluetooth Stereo deck

Minor Upholstery repair

Clock Repaired

Full Tune up and refresh (10 hours mechanic time total)

Items in need of attention to be perfect:

  • Cruise control not currently working. I’m told it is a “cruise control amplifier”
  • Back Seat driver window only rolls up and down with assist. Passenger Back Seat window is VERY slow.
  • Dashboard has a couple cracks in it, as expected, but is actually in good shape and covered by a dash mat.
  • As to be expected in a 40+ year old survivor it has various minor scratches, blemishes and cosmetic imperfections. This being said, it is a gorgeous driver, and you are welcome to come take a look!

Bid with confidence! You don’t get a perfect 15 year+ old eBay seller rating without underselling and overdelivering. I believe this is what I am doing here.
