1971 MERCEDES-BENZ 280 SE 3.5 COUPE: --Silver (DB180) over Black Leather interior, Two-Tone body with Black roof, Black carpeting, 3.5 Liter V8 with a 4-Speed Automatic Transmission, Behr Air Conditioning, Long-term California ownership. Building upon the new-generation upscale Mercedes-Benz models launched for 1965, the V8 powered 280 SE 3.5 debuted in late 1969. Just 4,502 of these masterpieces built, mostly by hand. This 3.5 Coupe was a California car for much of its life. Records date back to the early 1980’s showing ownership in the name of Mr. Baumann of Solana Beach, CA. The 3.5 was superbly maintained throughout his ownership and subsequently sold in 1997 to Mr. Jim Paxton of San Diego, CA. Mr. Paxton’s ownership shows over $30,000 of receipts including a repaint and reupholstery in original colors in the late 1990s. Mr. Paxton then sold the 3.5 to a resident of La Jolla, CA in the mid-2000s. Having always been loved and cared for by enthusiasts from new, this 3.5 Coupe is an excellent running example that presents extremely well in every area. It is accompanied by its original owner’s manual and service binder-records. All body lines are excellent as one would expect of a proper and well maintained 280 in all areas, structurally, cosmetically and mechanically. As one of Mercedes Benz’s final hand-built models, this 3.5 Coupe is ready for immediate enjoyment and touring use.
