This 300D has been very well-taken-care-of and continuously exercised, having been serviced at its original selling dealer all the way through 2003 and 124k miles, before moving to Ohio. Since then the car has served as a summer driver rather than an everyday commuter. As it sits now, this is a nicely presented, bulletproof-reliable, relatively low-mile example with a known, thoroughly-documented history from new. Exterior: Classic White paint presents very nicely throughout, and the car has seen one full repaint. There really aren’t any significant chips or scratches to note. Super, super clean. Only the most minor signs of wear. This car has clearly been cherished and responsibly-kept. However, there is one thing worth noting – in the right lighting you can tell that the hood is ever so slightly a different shade of white than the rest of the car. It’s truly extremely close, but the hood has a little more ivory whereas the rest of the car is pure white. Body is bone dry, not a spec of bubbling or rust. You can see in the photos just how nice the rockers are. Weatherstripping is very nice throughout, glass and light lenses are clear and crack-free, though the headlight surrounds do show a little bit of age. Original wheels are excellent throughout. No curb damage, significant scuffs, or discoloring. Tires, while we aren’t positive how old they are, are in nice shape. Not dry or well-worn. Very minor aging of the polished trim pieces, somewhat flat-looking. Bumpers are nice and clean, not dry or discolored. Again, garage-kept summer car. Passenger front door hinge could use a look if the next owner feels so inclined, as that door is a little bit tougher to shut than it should be. Interior: Interior is a highlight. Really, really nice. Even the original carpeting is nice and tidy. Black Tex-Leather is free of any punctures or visible wear. Even the outer bolsters are clean. Seats must have been re-stuffed somewhere down the line, as we don’t often see Mercedes seats of this era holding up so well over time. Comfortable and supportive, not blown out. Headliner is clean and tight. Door panels are in nice shape, no kicked-open markings or anything more than minor wear. Power windows are all functional. Power sunroof is functional. Pioneer radio is functional. Heat and fan are functional. Air conditioning was rebuilt and updated to R134a in 2013 and is functional. All gauges and interior lights are functional. Odometer is functional and reading of 141k is known to be accurate, based on excellent documentation and known history from new. Dash shows no cracks or other damage. Wood around the center console has some chips and hairline cracks. Overall, interior is in impressive shape. Roomy and comfortable. Great passenger sedan. Mechanical / Underbody: Please take a look through the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. Very nice. No damage, no rust. Many bolt heads still have the little dabs of factory paint on them. This car was serviced at the same dealership that it was originally sold through for most of its life, Glauser Mercedes Benz of Sarasota, FL. The original maintenance booklet is stamped through over the first 100k miles. More recent services include fluid changes, an AC rebuild and conversion in 2013, and a brake service in 2012. The car runs and drives beautifully. Ride quality is excellent and the car feels rock solid. Suspension and steering are tight and firm, not tired and old. These cars are notoriously slow, but it’s really just slow off the line. Once at speed and the turbo can do its business, this car is as quick as you’d ever need it to be. The car pulls hard through the gears without any hesitation, shifts smoothly and on-time, goes in and out of gear without clunking, and tracks straight under both acceleration and braking. No noises or tendencies of concern. Sweet car that is very much ready for daily duty. Fly in and drive home with confidence.
