Car description |
---|
1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL, 94,705 miles, Factory Astral Silver Metallic (DB) with Bright Red Leather interior (737).
I am putting my 450SL up for sale because I have not found time to drive it as often as I should. I have an Austin-Healey that I spend most of my time in so it only makes sense to get some room back in my garage and keep the things I actually drive.
The car is in great condition all around with the paint and body being in excellent shape, all of the stainless and chrome are free of any major dents or fading, and with a stunning interior that is free of any warping, fading, tearing, or major wear areas. The car has both tops to go along with it with a hardtop that is in good condition and a black soft top that is about 3 years old (being that it isn't up much it looks pretty well new). It does have an aftermarket radio which is both a pro and con to me (turning the radio on AND being able to understand it is rather nice sometimes). A couple of the chrome wheels do have some minor pitting beginning, which was not a huge bother to me so I never ended up replacing them. Though wheels are easy to come by if you decided to. My favorite part of the car however is how well the interior has held up over the years. Silver with Red has always been a desired color combo and the fact that the red interior didn't need a thing was a large selling point to me when I bought the car.
Mechanically speaking, the car starts, runs and drives wonderfully and I have not had any major issues during my ownership. All of the mechanical gauges are in working order and the factory a/c is blowing cold! The biggest thing with these 450SL's is to find one without rust. They were very prone to it and not very well protected from it back in the 70's and 80's. Leading to the biggest selling point to me (at least when I bought it) that it has a large ownership history from California with the books and original registration. Meaning that this car has no rust issues needing attention (I have included an underbody shot of it on a lift during my last oil change).
Feel free to message me with any questions, I'd be happy to answer them for you. I hit the limit on EBay with their built in photo library, so if you would like to see anything specific to verify condition, I'd be happy to get a couple shots for you. Also, as with any car but SL's specifically, there are nice cars and then there are "just cars". I will not be the cheapest SL out there for sale, I know that and that is okay. You get what you pay for after all... so please take that into consideration if you decide to make an offer!
