Mercedes Benz
300SD TurboDiesel
VIN: WDBCB20A9BB002864
Here's another great driving Mercedes diesel we've just acquired for our Ebay customers. Per the original records we received with the car, this nice 300SD sold new in January, 1981 at El Cajon Mercedes-Benz Ltd with an MSRP of $34,125. After spending the early years of its life in sunny California, a subsequent owner brought it north here to snow-free Western Washington State. Reluctantly, the car was passed on to us a short time ago in hopes of finding the next caretaker. I'll be sure to include the original books you see pictured tucked away in the glovebox when the Mercedes leaves my warehouse. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. My name is Mark and my number is (206) 914-1173 for either phone or text. You're welcome and encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and test-out this clean car.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
Ever driven one of these sedans with the powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine? Where else will you find this kind of luxury, vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND terrific (27+MPG) fuel economy wrapped up in one great ride? Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. I've always considered the W126 chassis cars constructed through the late 80's as some of the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have heard others say the same thing! Take a look at my photos and I'm sure you'll agree what a nice vehicle this is. What you see there is the result of a wash and vacuum only. Climb over, under and all around this car - I know you'll come up smiling! Having personally owned dozens of Mercedes over the years, I've developed a great appreciation for the classic MB style, mechanical reliability (especially with diesels) and the overall driving experience. THIS BENZ RUNS OUT VERY NICELY. I'M CONVINCED YOU'LL BE PROUD TO OWN AND DRIVE IT AS WELL!
CONDITION:
In total, you'll find this is a clean, smoke-free Mercedes. I take pride in these vehicles and feel that you should know as much about the car as possible. Accordingly, here's a list of the good and also a few small things possibly needing attention: take literally two or three seconds to heat the glow plugs when starting cold and the peppy 3.0L inline five diesel engine starts immediately with only few moments of starter cranking! The automatic transmission shifts through all the gears just as it should and with absolutely no slippage. The car idles, runs and drives like a Mercedes is built to - strong, immediate oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no overheating, no brake pull.
The factory Astral Silver Metallic paint has been resprayed to the original color sometime in the past. There are a few rock chips and flaked spots. Though I'm no expert, I find no evidence of bodywork or accident repair. The front fenders, rear quarters, doors and floor pans are all very solid. There is some corrosion at the base of the rear window that's been touched-up. No other real body flaws to point out. The immediate past owner was never able to open the trunk as none of the keys turn the lock. We've not been in there either for the same reason and have no idea what will treasures will later be found! All the glass is good with no cracks or bulls-eye chips front or back. I'd suggest a new rear window gasket is in order as the rubber is quite dried out. Vintage Mercedes alloy wheels don't ever seem to be anything but straight and true. These fit that bill and are wrapped with nice touring radials, each with at least 60% to 70% remaining tread all around.
Take another good look at my interior shots. The black Vinyl-tex seats (including the rear bench) are in excellent original condition with no rips, tears or wear-through spots. They also do NOT seem to have broken seat springs; something you'll often encounter on a vintage Benz. After checking the speedometer, it works well, however the same can't be said for the odo, neither the trip or the main counter turn. The heater fan blows warm air when activated using the dash switches. There's no evidence of any water leakage on the headliner. Several of the power windows and the sunroof are pretty finicky opening or closing, likely needing updated switches. On a positive note, the power seats move in all directions, the very decent carpets are all-original and there's NO cigarette odor. Great interior headliner, too! It's very unusual to find an original Becker stereo still there in the dash console on any vintage Mercedes This nice "Europa" model works great and is worth a fortune here on Ebay if you decide to upgrade the sound system to something a bit more modern ( I love the classic vibe).
We're always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you're also welcome to do what many of our past buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done - fly in here to Seattle (we'll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a road trip home the same day. As a respected Ebay seller with many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing this Mercedes drives out as it should AND that it is being properly represented to you! Please don't be upset if I miss a flaw or some issue comes up on the car. NO used vehicle is ever perfect.
Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE bidding! You're are always welcome and encouraged to stop by, inspect the Mercedes (or have a professional do it) and take it for a test drive. It is being sold as-is, where-is with a free & clear Washington State title. There are NO title brands for any nasty negatives like salvage history, theft or flood damage to cause you concern! Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on Ebay contact me before placing their bid either through EBay's message system or, as outlined above, call me at206/914-1173. My name isMARK.
A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:
The entire purchase price is due by cash (in-person only) or certified funds within seven days of the auction closing. I can accept credit/debit cards but will need to first send an invoice from our card processor and ask that the 3.5% fee charged by them be added. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You're not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You're more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.
If you do decide to have thecar shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transportcompanies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get bids from the transporters listed here on the Ebay site by pressing the "Shipping" tab found above this description section. I do have a local company many of our buyers have used for delivery all over the country and I'd be happy to get a COD bid from them after the auction is completed. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER.
TheMercedes can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
