Car description |
---|
This 220SEb W111 Coupe is a great example of an older restoration that was completed for the owner rather than for profit. So, no expense was spared in the process.
High quality DB-50 Mercedes-Benz White paint job shows very little age and waxes to a show floor finish. The chrome bumpers were re-plated, and show well for their age. A new PPG windshield and quality gasket were installed at the time of restoration. The windows are all in excellent condition with good clarity, zero scratches, and smooth operation. The manual sunroof operates as designed with no leaks and easy action.
Trunk is clean, tight, dry, and without rust in spare-tire wells.
Seats were re-upholstered with color code 204 leather, a traditional Mercedes-Benz medium red, still supple and fresh.
The Burl-wood dash and trim were restored by a well known North Carolina restoration shop.
The coupe rolls wonderfully on upgraded 14-inch steel wheels with Michelin HydroEdge All-Season radials.
Instruments have been reconditioned and precisely re-calibrated to accommodate for the larger wheels. Odometer accurately reflects 10k miles since restoration. Last but not least for aesthetics and function; headlamps have been upgraded to Bosch H4 head & fog lights.
Mechanically this car has been brought up to date to match the restoration. The sub-frame was removed and re-bushed all around. King-pins, tie-rods, sub-frame mounts, wheel bearings, front & rear Bilstein shocks. Brakes have been overhauled with new master cylinder, brake booster, calipers, rotors, pads, and hoses. Highest quality parts were obtained for the restoration when OEM was not available or 100% necessary. The coupe was also fitted with a complete stainless steel exhaust absent of rattles or leaks. The engine is strong and idles smoothly. It always passed NJ inspection when it was required.
This Mercedes has been well respected and used strictly in fair weather by its owner. The coupe is one of several in the owners well maintained collection. Due to space limitation they are hoping for this W111 coupe to go to a good home where it will be appreciated and well looked after. It has seen only one dedicated mechanic, who is regionally renowned for specializing in vintage Mercedes-Benz repair.
