Offered for sale is an exceptionally clean, one owner, final production year 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL with just 53k original miles and finished in timeless Arctic White over grey leather. Sold new by Lakeview Mercedes-Benz in Rockville Centre, NY, the car would remain in Southampton, NY with the original owner until she moved to Montecito, CA in 2008. When in NY, the car was always serviced by Lakeview and by Country Imports, the Mercedes dealership in Southampton. Since coming to CA, it’s been serviced by Village Automotive Repair here in Montecito, the most recent service being in October 2017 and including: transmission pan replaced, wipers replaced, fuel filter replaced, rear differential serviced, fluids changed, drive belts replaced, shifter bushings replaced, oil and filters changed, steering dampener replaced, hazard light switch replaced, new battery. The car has always been garaged and well cared for and driven sparingly throughout the years, reflected by its very clean, original condition.
The Arctic White finish is in excellent condition, marred only by the most minor of imperfections, none of which are significant enough to really appear in the pictures or detract from its considerable appeal. There’s a touched up chip on the passenger door above the pin-striping, a scuff on the lower black rubber portion of the front valence, a few rock chips in the front valence and a touched up scuff behind the soft-top cover (likely from hardtop removal/installation). The latter doesn’t even show up in pictures. The car comes with a clean Carfax report and has never been in any accidents, retaining factory consistent panel fits and gaps. All of the glass, chrome and trim is in excellent original condition, as are the wheels, which are wrapped in Michelin tires with plenty of remaining tread. The hardtop is flawless and the soft-top is original, shows no wear and retains clear windows. The single biggest cosmetic issue is an antenna hole in the passenger side rear quarter panel from an early 90s car phone, but rather than have it filled and detract from the originality, we installed a body colored metal plug.
The car’s interior is equally as clean, the grey leather seats showing only negligible wear and the carpets and interior panels are all in excellent condition. The dash is free of cracks and the only flaw in the interior is a small cut to the leather trim on the soft-top cover. The aforementioned car phone was mounted to into the carpet on the center console, and while it wasn’t replaced at the time the car was photographed, rest assured that we’re replacing that carpet for factory correct material.
Always well maintained, the car is also in great shape mechanically, the original 5.6L V8 starting up effortlessly, idling consistently and pulling strong and smoothly through each of the gears. The brakes were recently replaced (both pads and rotors) and car drives, brakes and handles straight and true. Road manners are excellent and the car’s a joy to drive, whether knocking around town or bombing down the highway. The undercarriage is entirely original and rust-free, as is the rest of the car. In additional to a clean and well-documented Carfax report, the car comes with its original manual and stamped service booklet, its original tool kit and original spare wheel/tire.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a very clean, low mileage, well-looked-after final year 560SL finished in timeless colors and priced reasonably for the market. It’s a completely honest original one owner car and if you’re in the market for a strong example, this car definitely deserves your serious consideration.
