No ugly bumpers! Stunning 1973 Mercedes 450SL with Type 107 Lorinser Body Kit and BBS Mahle cross spoke alloy wheels with centers painted to match the car. V-8, automatic, power steering and brakes, removable hard top, soft top, and am/fm/CB radio. Lorinser Body Kit includes front, rear, and side panels, driving lights, and chrome wheel well trim. Lorinser is one of the top German body kit manufacturers and BBS is one of the top German wheel manufacturers. This clean, exotic, and matched look is very unique and sets this car far apart from the domestic 450SLs with their huge front and rear bumpers.
This European model was brought to the US from Germany in mid-1980s and has been in dry, heated storage since 1990. It has not been driven or started since then. The top was new when stored. I was told by the 30-year owner, a longtime friend, that the car was running great when he put it away.It was his regular driver and he courted his wife in it. He retired and moved to Virginia two years ago and needed to sell the car prior to selling his house, which is how I came to own it.
The motor is free and cranks easily with the starter. The brake pedal appears to be firm and the brakes are not frozen. The glass appears to be fine with no chips or cracks. Wipers, turn signals, and radio all work. Not sure about the CB, but it does have a microphone and magnetic antenna. The tires are Pirelli 225/50 VR 15. The BBS wheels are 5-lug and have wheel locks. Odometer reads 116,619 km (72,463 miles). There are two very small dents in the hood and a few small sections of surface rust starting to bubble where the metal meets a body panel. The fuel lines to and from the tank blow freely with compressed air.
The inside of gas tank was recently professionally flushed, etched, and sealed and the exterior was painted. A new fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel line damper, and tank exit screen from Mercedes, 9mm and 11mm fuel lines, and tank exit fuel line are included with the car and need to be installed along with the tank. A 46mm 3/4" drive socket and a 3/4" male to 1/2" female adapter needed to install the sending unit (which should be replaced) and the exit screen also comes with the car.AMercedes battery was purchased in February, 2016 and is in excellent condition.
This car is sold as-is, where-is with no expressed or implied warranties. Since it is a project car, I can provide no advice or guarantees on if or how it runs or drives. The car has a clean PA title and is located in the Philadelphia suburbs. The car may be advertised elsewhere and this auction may be cancelled if the car has been sold prior to the close. The buyer is responsible for all transportation, registration, operating, and maintenance costs after the transaction has been completed.I am selling it because I am starting a new business just don't have the time to finish it.
Thank you for viewing this posting and good luck with your bid.
