GOOD:
1. Last year(1980) of W116, highly collectible, very hard to find2. California carthroughout until 2011 when it was brought to Shreveport LA and stored there since then.3. NO RUST, Very good and straight body4. Good Engine, transmission, Brakes, All power windows work, Sunroof works, Tires 90%5. Good color combo, Black with parchment, Paint in good condition, LIGHT BUFFING will bring it back to luster. Very good interior except two front seats6. Radio was replaced with CD/DVD/Navigation (JENSEN VM 9412) with remote control, Old speakers were replaced with new Polk speakers
BAD:1.Odometer cable snapped few months while test driving which I do every 2-3 months to keep it running. may have added 40-50 miles since then.2. 37 years old car, California weather dried up the leather on the seats that were cracking and some pieces came off. I was able to find very good rear seats in same color and replaced them. Both front seats will need upholstery.3. Dash board has some cracks but it is covered with removable dash board cover4. Steering wheel has some play, need bushings, (I bought once but misplaced them, now I am too sick to take care of the things)
Recommend full service before long drive. Please be realistic this is not a new car, it is 37 years old so expect imperfections. I was a Mercedes collector for long and this one is so hard to find especially California car with NO RUST is highly desirable to preserve the history.
I'd been very sick for the last 5 years and surgeries after surgeries and complications. Currently unable to lift more than 10 kg. Car Collection is a very tricky thing. you need a lot of everything, Time, Money, Knowledge, Expertise and physical strength. I am lacking many of these now. so start letting go things one by one.
