Car description |

Here is very rare and largely original 1987 Mercedes Benz 190e 2.3-16v Cosworth, Original California ordered car in factory correct smoke silver 702 code, all vin labels, data tag and chassis plate present. If you're reading this, you know how special this car is and it's place in 1980's automotive history. Fewer than 2000 2.3 16v's were imported to the US for a 2 year period in 1986-87. In fact according to the February '98 issue of European car, a total of 1953 2.3 16v's were imported to the US originally, of these 1202 in 1986 and only 751 for the 1987 model year, making this extremely rare and these are starting to become sought after in the collector market. Even more rare being a Northern California car its entire life with no rust. This car is fast with amazing acceleration and low-down torque supplied through a 4 speed automatic. None of the notchy gearshift issues that plagued the 2.3 models with the manual gearbox. The factory aerodynamic body kit, front bumper, rear bumper, spoiler, side skirts, all sheet metal and body panels are original. This is the car that took the European DTM racing series by storm and further pushed BMW Motorsport division to build the elusive E30 M3. A piece of European racing history built for not only the track but the street as well. This example has just over 125K miles, as mentioned above, Northern CA car it's entire life, no rust, excellent body, no dents, or leaks. Over the last year, new spark-plugs, muffler, idle control valve, distributor cup, swaybar bushings, rear shocks and accumulators were all recently replaced. Car was recently repainted, not perfect, but driver quality. Correct wheels were refurbished recently, interior is in good shape, AC works, all gauges and radio is fully functional. Headlights are slightly fogged, the exterior rubber is faded in certain areas, and dash had a few cracks, but is still in presentable driver condition overall. It contains its original owners manual, leather pouch and other supporting manuals for the car. Clean title, clean carfax and recently passed smog earlier this year for CA.
Here's a brief rundown of the 190E 2.3-16V specs-Nothing about the 2.3 - 16V was done for looks, it was all about performance. Compared with the standard 190E, practically every part of the driveline was upgraded. The twin - cam cylinder head was designed by Cosworth; larger disc brakes were fitted at all four corners, with vented rotors and floating calipers up front and solid rotors and fixed calipers at the rear, wider wheels, firmer suspension, limited slip differential, 5 - speed Getrag transmission or 4 speed automatic (which this one has), 10mm larger driveshaft, self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension, stiffer shock absorbers and coil springs plus heavier sway bars, wider wheels and tires.
Asking $14,900, which is a bargain price considering where the E30 M3 market is currently and the condition of this car. Many for sale I looked at had rust issues, needed paint, or had mechanical and electrical issues and were all asking in or around this price, and I might add had higher mileage. This is a CA car it's whole life with low ownership history and has always been cared for. These cars are climbing fast, making this a great investment opportunity.
Also considering selling the E30 M3 as seen in the picture with this car. Extremely low 55k original miles, family owned from '89-'13! Very clean, untouched E30 M3 in original condition. Let me know if interested, willing to package both, serious buyers only. Thanks for your interest.
