1971 Mercedes Benz 300SEL 3.5
- EMAIL ME FOR A LINK TO 60+ pictures of the car -
This is a european model 300SEL 3.5. When I bought the car it had been sitting for around a decade. I got the car running and have done quite a few things to it over the years. Most importantly I overhauled the air suspension (height control valves and new bellows) so the system never drops.
It is by no means a perfect car and the pictures don't show the true nature of the paint. The paint was redone but badly and there are flaws throughout. It looks good from a distance but once up close you can see that the painter did not prep the car properly and the paint did not cure nicely. Some of the stuff will buff out but the majority won't. I looked the car over closely and the only bubbling of the paint I can find is on the front left wheel lip and two small locations on the passenger side rear door. These are very small and you have to be looking for them.
The leather and carpets are all new. The door panels are original and do have some fading and slight discoloration but they aren't bad. The one area I never got to that I would have liked to do would be the B-Pillars. I have extra material for those that I will include with the car.
The chrome is average and does have small dings and small scratches in areas.
The windows all work but they are all very stiff from sitting so long and could use lubrication. The drivers window works the best thankfully and goes up and down nicely.
This would be a fun daily driver with a bit of tweaking (see below for issues). If you wanted to take it to the next level you would need to repaint it and do chrome.
During my ownership I have replaced the following items:
Rebuilt 3 Height Control Air Suspension ValvesAll 4 Air Bellows ReplacedFront and Rear Glass GasketsDoor GasketsTrunk GasketHeadlights Upgraded to H4 and H1 Hella'sFog Lamps Upgraded to Hella'sNew Front Subframe MountsRebuilt All 4 Brake Calipers and Installed New PadsNew Brake HosesRadiator RecoredNew TiresNew Carpet SetNew Leather
The main issues I have noticed:
power steering leak, box needs resealingsmall drips from transmissionshift indicator cable is not operatingpaint is not nicechrome is averagemuffler needs replacing (I never got around to this, new one will go with car)radio powers up and antenna works fine, no sound (needs amp, I will supply one for new owner)master cylinder seems slightly softdash wood was not redone so it is slightly lighter in color (that door wood) and light hazing/crackingthe door wood and dash bow was redone but not perfectlysmall splits in headliner upper rear right side (see pic)need new dome lamp up front (small plastic tab broken)fuel pump relay is intermittent, sometimes I have to give it a tap or unplug/replug
I have a clean title in my name. The car is located in Burien, Washington. If you have any questions feel free to email me and I will do my best to answer them.
