Blue Metallic Exterior with Parchment Leather Interior and Dark Blue Convertible Top; Automatic; Hard Top; Restored by Noted Marque Specialist, Jurgen Klockemann; California Car from 1970 to 2008 (family owned from new until 2006); Extensive Service Records; Maintained to the Highest Standards.
This 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was delivered new on June 24, 1970 by Stahl Motor Company to its first owner in Santa Ana, California. The (originally) Horizon Blue (304 G) 280SL passed onto her son around 1980 and stayed under his ownership until 2006. At that time, it was for selective restoration by a client of Fox Motorsports and sent to marque specialist, Jurgen Klockemann, of San Jose, California. During restoration by JK Restorations (Jurgen Klockemann), the exterior color was change to period-correct Blue metallic with matching hard top. The car arrived in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2008 and has since been under the fastidious care of Fox Motorsports ever since. It's covered approximately 3,500 miles since 2008 and currently shows 56,568 miles, which by all accounts is original mileage.
This 280SL spent the majority of its life in California and it shows. The underside of the car is excellent and has never been painted. The engine bay spot welds and headlight alignment marks on the fenders are intact. There appears to be no previous accident damage. The resprayed Blue metallic paint is beautiful with only two (2) minor stone chips up front, a small dent in the driver’s side cowl area, and minor stone chips behind the rear wheels. The condition of the interior wood trim and leather is excellent throughout.
The Mercedes has been cosmetically and mechanically maintained to the highest level. Its last service (oil/filter, coolant, brake fluid, and spark plugs) was in November of 2016, less than 30 miles ago. Other recent service work includes: new rear brake pads/rotors in 2010, new fuel line/hose work and fuel filter replacement in 2011, new tires in 2012, new brake master cylinder in 2014, restored Becker Europa radio in 2017. The 280SL has had annual full fluid changes regardless of miles.
This Mercedes 280SL drives extremely well and has never seen snow/salt. It’s always been stored in a climate-controlled environment (and on a battery trickle charger) when not in use. It’s life as a California car and work by Jurgen Klockemann shows.
