Own something different, own a classic car! Are you tired of driving the same thing as everybody else? Get into something different with this nicely maintained 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300 D Turbo Diesel sedan.
I've owned this Benz since I was in high school and I've loved every minute of it (over 10 years). Over that time it has been incredibly reliable, needing only very basic maintenance, oil changes, and fuel. That's it. If you're familiar with diesel Mercedes' then you already know that these cars are known world over for their incredible reliability and low operating costs. To give you some idea, I usually got 26-28mpg. They are regularly seen, even today, operating as taxi cabs in some of the least hospitable climates with a million miles on the original engine / transmission!
The person I purchased the Benz from took incredible care of it for nearly 20 years and was part of the reason why I chose this one over the other Benz' available at the time. In turn, I have very complete service records for almost every repair ever done to it. This is a nice plus for a car of this age. Also, this car is a California car.
Generally, this Benz is in great shape and is an excellent candidate for restoration. The exterior is in good shape with only superficial rust near the rear wheel well. The paint is in great shape, showing only mild sun fade. More of the same is in the interior with nice sheepskin seat covers upfront and comfortable original rear seats. Some of the interior switches don't work and the sun roof / rear window motors don't work anymore. The vacuum system is in pretty good shape, so the door locks work, which is rare for older Benz'. I upgraded the radio to work for an iPod a couple of years ago.
The only major problem that I'm aware of is related to the air conditioning system. I had a belt break earlier this year, which seems to have caused the air conditioning system to not work anymore. I'm pretty sure this is an easy fix for the more mechanically inclined and/or in the hands of a Mercedes expert. The car is still drivable in all conditions, just without A/C.
People always admire the Benz and give me compliments. It always stands out in a parking lot and I love it's deep, throaty rumble when I'm driving. I'm sad to see it go, but it's time. I don't have the space to keep it, otherwise, I'd save it to restore in a couple of years.
Buyer is responsible for all transportation logistics and fees.
Happy Bidding!
