For your consideration is a very unique 1984 Mercedes Geländewagen (eBay does not recognize the vin which is why it is listed as a 1980). These beautiful G wagons were all hand built and never offered for sale to the U.S. market.
This G wagon was built in the Graz Austria Puch factory in 1984 as a 280GE, which came with the gasoline engine which left much to be desired. This was professional swapped out by a previous owner for the desirable OM617A turbo diesel which is known to many as one of the most reliable engines ever made. The transmission was later rebuilt to freshen up the 4 speed auto which is much better than the 3 speed auto previously offered by Mercedes.
The body was professionally painted and while the car was stripped for paint, the previous owner noticed the floor pans had some rust that was caused by wet shoes (rusting from the inside) which he had replaced by the same company. The floor pans were the only mentionable corrosion on the car which was overall extremely solid.
After the exterior was done, the interior was next. The interior was completed with as much OEM Mercedes pieces as possible. The seats were recovered and the fronts replaced with the extremely desirable Recaro seats which were then modified to be heated and work with the OEM mercedes heated seat switched of which were sourced for the build.
I have a large file which contains a significant amount of receipts and documents for the restoration and most parts that have been replaced by my self as well as the previous two owners.
This is a very solid G wagon that is currently daily driven. I would be confident in driving just about anywhere. The only notable issues I am aware of with this G wagon is that the temp gauge is currently not working (I have not looked into this to see what is causing it), the button under the gas pedal (if you have driven a mercedes you probably know what one) is not currently working so it does not down shift when you press the pedal all the way down, and the tach worksintermittently. The AM/FM antenna cord was also slightly damaged on the plug so it is not currently plugged into the back of the radio. The body is very solid although of course as you would expect with any car of this age it is not perfect and will have some blemished and small amounts of corrosions here and there.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I am also happy to show the vehicle to those in or willing to travel to Utah.
Thank you for looking
