Car description |
---|
For your consideration - 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Coupe in original condition. 60,926 original miles.
Imported from Germany, with original EURO lighting and trim - port of entry NYC.
Original owners Manual and repair records.
In running condition, although original tires are crazed/old, andI would not recommend a cross country drive.
I purchased from a church auction 1998 and drove back from Tampa FL. Clear title - I am the 3rd Owner. Lastlicensed in 2001.
Comes with fitted cover and has been stored in a dry garage for entire time I have owned it. I start and run it frequently, with regular jaunts around the neighborhood to keep things circulating/working.
Sold as is - where is - with no implied warranty.
Pictures tell the story, of cars condition. unmolested.
Rebuilt ColdWeather starting system, newer brakes. Small exhaust leak,I have not taken it to get repaired. IfI were to keep the car,I would consider replacing it all, exhaust systems are relatively cheap.
Heavily undercoated. Some small amount of paint loss and surface rust in places shown in pics. One small area of rust near rear wheel, has not rotted thru. I have done my best to treat areas with rustconversion/inhibitor.
Trunk is dry and has no rust. Original Spare and tool kit.
Paint original, right rear QP was touched up at some point...thus paint chips. Chrome is generally bright, some dings and crushing as show in pics.
Interior in very good originalcondition considering the age of vehicle. Drivers seat shows some wear, with small leather tear on bolster. Gauges and dials work, in KMs vs miles. (98,051 kilometers) Becker Mexico Radio works. Wood pillars solid. dash has wood lifting. Headliner clean. Temp controls function - one adjuster cracked, not air conditioned. Carpet clean. Some Interior trim has pitting from age. Window seals and rubber are worn but working.
Really a very very nice hand built car, if you are looking for something original - that runs with a detailed history and rare form. Chances are if you are looking at this, youprobably know that W111 series parts are readily available to make this car a show stopper. This is a special car and if you have driven one you know smooth and solid it feels. With a little effort you will have something that will turn heads and keep bugs in yoursmiling teeth.
I am not a car guy, but will do my best to answer questions. I just don't have the time or pocketbook to upkeep/restore the way it deserves. I will tell you I had big dreams for this car, and Isincerely hope that it gets an owner that is willing to give it the love and the mojo to make it perfect.
US bidders only,I will not accept bids from buyers outside the US.
