Car description |
---|
Beautiful Mercedes diesel sedan. I purchased this car along with a cosmetically troubled one with a new engine to combine them. I never did. This cosmetically beautiful Mercedes instead received a new used transmission professionally supplied and installed. There is the normal laundry list of issues that often come with these 35 yr old cars. This is the nicest car of the bunch I viewed when I was into buying and restoring classic Mercedes sedans. If I had gone through and addressed all of the little issues this would be a 5000 dollar car. As it stands, the price has been adjusted accordingly.
The Positives:
-It is an extremely reliable runner.
-The upholstery is in excellent shape.
-The dash is in excellent shape.
-The paint clear coat still shines up beautifully.
-Minimal rust issue.
-All the bling, ( chrome, rubber, hub caps, and etc.) is exceptional!
-It has all the wood trim. A few pieces only need new clear coat.
-The body is extremely straight! ( with the exception of one dent on right front fender and a few paint chips.)
-I just replaced the alternator.
-It comes with many extra service parts. ( filters, window switches, and windshield gasket)
-In short this is a perfect restore project. I often have people coming up and stop me to tell and talk to me about how beautiful this car is!
-If you look around on Ebay and on the classic Mercedes forums you will find, as I did when first getting into these cars of which I have owned five, that all these issues are typical. It is, after all, a 35 yr old car!! If you have knowledge of the intricacies of German engineering you will especially appreciate the veracity of what I am saying.
-I have owned five classic Mercedes, of these, 4 sedans. I have seen dozens of these cars when searching for those I have had and this is the nicest I came across for under 4000 dollars.
Here is the needs attention list:
-New windshield gasket needs to be installed to remedy a small leak in the corner of the glass that appears when the rain is heavy. The gasket comes with the car.
-It needs a front wheel alignment.
-It has an oil leak between the intake manifold and the air cleaner housing.
-It needs a new drivers side window motor or the existing motor rebuilt.
-There is some electrical issue with the antennae mast that makes it keep running. I have it unplugged for this reason.
-The vacuum system needs some air valves and hoses replaced so that it maintains pressure and functions to its fullest capacity. The air locks, engine shut off, and transmission vacuum shift actuator (when cold), do not function perfectly as a result.
-It needs the battery tray replaced and the metal surrounding it treated for rust.
-As is also typical of these cars, the climate control box does not function properly.
-Air conditioner does not function, I can't say why. I bought the car that way.
I have done my best via the description and the photos to describe the exact condition of the car to the best of my knowledge. This is an "as is" sale and the buyer pays for and arranges any shipping needed.
-Thanks for having a look!
