Anyone who lives in California should own a convertible at least once.UNIMOG, (pronounced uonomok) an entire new off-road world has just opened up to you. THE unimaginable has incredible capabilities, you can drive one tire up on a 36" tall object and 3 tires are still on the ground. You can put it in 4wd at any speed and engage front and rear compound lockers at any speed. Keep in mind that any speed doesn't mean that much on a vehicle that tops out at about 56 mph! Think of it as a fast go anywhere you have the nerve to tractor, not a slow truck and you will always have a smile n your face. By the way, it is smog exempt!
This is a 1968 Unimog 404., more specifically a 404. Swiss 10 Troop Carrier. Mercedes gas 6-cylinder engine, 6-speed trans, 2-speeds in reverse also. This was first imported from Switzerland to California USA in 2011. It has both the troop carrier bed with fold down seats and a canvas top.
I have driven it maybe 375 miles since I got it last January 2011. While it is legal to drive (on the freeway, it's too slow), it is designed for speeds under 50 mph and really shines where there are no roads at all. DMV historical plates $85.00 a year registered historical status.
