Car description |

1973 Mercedes Benz 280 SEL 4.5. only 8,100 made for north america. 4.5L V8 230 hp automatic transmission. starts every time first crank, hifts into 2nd and 3rd at 20mph and 30mph without fail. last of the hand-made MB's. ive been stripping a few parts off to do some bodywork, t was pretty rusty but not too far gone. its now at the point where you can either: just drive it; continue to rat it out; or restore it. fully restored to mint these run $20,000. some details: heater works, lows down at the floor, of the 4 rubber controls are broken (a common problem with these). speedometer works, dometer is stuck at 18K (or 118K?). several of the interior lights and the clock works, fter i replaced a couple of the fuses. gas gauge, emp gauge and oil pressure gauge all work. all exterior lights work. A/C blows, ave not checked refrigerant, hich is probly the old style. tires all look new. sprayed it with rustoleum to keep rust down, ought new hubcaps to match the dark color. silver tape (pinstripe) down the side to cover the holes til the chrome trim is replaced. obviously needs paint and some more bodywork. leather interior is remarkably wear-free, as a few tears. headliner intact, eeds tucked in in a spot in the back. radio (not original) was pulled as it didnt power up. no trunk lock or trunk key. have 3 ignition keys. vacuum system not operational. turn signals work, iper and wiper pump work. i replaced the rotting screens in the hood inlet that goes to the heating/air system. parts i have that are not on the car at present: cream hubcaps in excellent shape ($100-$200 on ebay), tar with lock and badge from grill, adges and star from trunk lid, ll trim strips around the body, pare tire (looks new), riginal bilstein jack, usebox cover, over under middle dash, xtra dash knobs, xtra MB fuses(just bought), riginal front floormats, riginal Bosch running lights, ood trim around rear door windows. all small parts bagged and tagged. so you have a good start on a restoration, r sell all these and other parts on the car, nd still have a running car thats almost paid for. car is for sale locally, o i reserve the right to end the auction if sold.
