Hello: Up for your inspection is this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300SL. The car is grey market; meaning it was imported by an individual and not purchased directly from MB USA. The car has a high performance inline 6 cylinder engine (M103) that featured a high performance camshaft and high compression pistons. The engine performance combined with a high ratio differential gives this car more than adequate power and is actually faster off the line that the US model V-8 cars( note: all items described are factory installed on the production car). Just toclarify, his model Mercedes was NEVER officially available to the US market. As you can see from the photos, t retains the original single glass euro headlights and small chrome bumpers. It has a manual drivers outside mirror control and a power passenger side mirror control. Now the bad news; the car has not been taken care of. Known issues with the car are:1.Noise from engine; engine runs smoothly but has a noise which may originate from the cylinder head but more likely from a rod bearing.2.Interior is in poor condition. Tears in the seats, ood trim delaminating, ash has a coverlay which I presume hides cracks.3.Odometer is stopped at 217000. Has not worked for at least 10k miles.4.Rust in floors behind seats. Notcompletely rusted through but closeGood news:1.Has a brand new dark blue soft top2.Has the very desirable Euro headlights and bumpers3.Transmission was rebuilt about 7 years ago, stimate has 40k on it.4.Parts replaced in the past 4 years: radiator, alternator, steering box,Michelin front tires5.Has nice aftermarket wheels and fair shape(could use a fresh coat of paint)
