You are bidding on a 1987 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL.
NO RESERVE AUCTION.
I've long been a fan of the Big Body Mercedes Benz'. In fact, like all Mercedes products, ut, f you are looking at this listing, ou undoubtedly have great taste. The big body Benz that preceded this car, he W116 body style, as never my favorite. Nor was the overtly tank-like W140 that followed the W126. It was too heavy looking for my taste. In fact, any Heads of States, n other countries, till have W126 Mercedes Benz' in their fleets. They were - and still are, xtremely popular - and handsome. The W126 style is neither old nor particularly new; meaning it still possesses the class of Mercedes top of the line sedans with the retro - old school charm of the late 80's. In fact, ercedes stop making the W126 in 1991.
I specifically like the 420 SEL versions for two reasons, t doesn't have the air suspension, hich always fails on Mercedes (new and old) and it has the smaller 4.2-liter V8, hich is more frugal. I've seen gas mileage above 20 mpg on the road in these cars. You should also know that I own a shop that restores my own cars, eplete with everything required to make a car new (included a professional paint booth). Therefore, buy cars that I like - and plan to keep - and at other times, uy one that I'd love to keep but must sell to keep the lights on. After all, his is just my hobby. But, y motto seems to be, uy a $10,000 car and put $20,000 into it. I'm a perfectionist and, ith a Mercedes, hat can be expensive.
What my shop does particularly well is body restoration and paint. We can handle mechanical issues, f course, ut painting is a passion. It must be better than new. So, et's start there. This car was treated to a bare metal re-spray, nd I'm not talking about the "tape over the trim" re-spray either. All of our paint jobs include removing the bumpers - front and rear, urn signal lights, oor handles, rim and in many cases, ront and rear windshields and back glass. Our car was the victim of a vengeful teenager who keyed virtually every panel of this car, xcept the roof (he probably couldn't reach it). So, e needed to take the body down to metal. What ensued was a paint job that made the factory job look amateur. We apply a two stage paint, irst the color, hen the clear coat (usually two coats or more). We painted this 420SEL in it's factory color, f course. There was no rust, hatsoever.
With only 89,900 miles, his Benz runs perfectly. We did notice that the rear end bounced a bit more than usual - so we installed genuine Mercedes Benz shocks (receipt goes with the car). While under the car we noticed the excellent appearance and condition of the underside - and the tires.
She runs, hifts, tops and glides like a new 420SEL. All windows work, s does the stereo (am/fm/cassette). There are no warning lights on either. We've added new Freon to the system and are waiting to see if there is a leak. Speaking of leaks, here are none to be found under the car. She is as tight as a drum.
The sunroof works perfectly also (and has a non factory wind buffeting shield). The power door locks all operate, s do the power seats. The interior is nicer than it's age should indicate, eaning there is very minor wear on the leather. There is light fading on the wood surrounding the shifter, ut nothing that you might, t first, otice.
The dash has several heat cracks - but we can install a cover at an additional cost if this bothers you. Also, he rims are slightly faded. Again, e can restore them also, t the cost of $100 per rim - after the sale. You can choose the color or we'll paint them the factory silver.
The rear seat is in near perfect condition, nd is the place to be. The ride back there is limo like - and still reminds you of the quality that is put into every W126. The ride is one of the best Mercedes has ever conceived.
There was no body damage to the car - aside from the aforementioned key scratches. No bondo was applied - no panels needed to be straightened. This was a super straight and original 420.
I highly recommend a test drive or an in person inspection. I've tried to describe the car to the best of my ability, ut my definition of "great" might, nd probably does, iffer from yours. Hence the car is sold as-is, ecause of her age - with no warranties expressed or implied. I will guarantee the paint for a period of one year against bubbling, ust or hazing. Our paint jobs win awards.
So, his is likely one of the nicest running and looking 420SEL's you are likely to see. There are a lot of dogs out there, ars that have not been well kept. This car, owever, s not one of them. She is collector worthy and will surely appreciate in value, f that is your mission. If you simply want old school quality and panache, his 420SEL should be considered. The pictures tell the story. I am happy to send more to an interested party or arrange for a test drive. This is a no reserve auction - last bidder wins. Scammers, lease note, report you. Don't bid on my cars if you don't have the funds. I don't finance - and my deposit request is non-refundable, eriod.
Thank you and happy bidding.
