1973 Mercedes-Benz 220DVIN: 11511010346408Odometer: 98XXXFor sale, 1973 Mercedes-Benz 220D. I'm selling because I am moving and really can't justify hanging onto this car any longer. It's been a great daily driver/kid hauler for about 8 years. The chassis probably has about 198,000 miles on it, aybe even 298,000. This car has a later model 240D (OM 616.916) engine installed in it with about 68,000 miles on it now. The engine was a complete rebuilt by Metric Motors purchased in 2006 and was a direct swap for the original OM 615 220D engine, complete bolt-in with no modification needed. All paperwork associated with the engine is included in the folder of receipts that comes with the car.The car runs and drives well. The engine starts easy hot and cold. The car handles and stops great. I just had the fuel injectors pop tested and they looked OK. The transmission shifts well except for lame synchros on 3rd gear when rushed. I've got a donor transmission that has good 3rd synchros and am including it with the car. This car would be great for someone looking for an engine or a parts car that could be driven to where it's needed. It could also be driven for many more miles just like it is.The car came to me with a seized engine and salvage title. The salvage title is due to a rear end crash that happened unknown years ago. The RH rear quarter was replaced and was done OK. The entire car was painted at that time, basic job. As it is now the paint is a bit faded and the front LH fender and door are in primer. Within the past couple years the car has been involved in two relatively minor accidents. The car was struck in the front LH fender and door by a red light runner. I sourced good donor door and fender and mounted them ready for paint. I've got paint and reducer to include with the car. The other recent accident happened when a driver failed to stop for a red light and smacked the LH rear corner. I'm including another rear bumper upright to replace the one missing from the LH side. The extras that go with the car:-Front seat back cover.-Four head rests for front seats.-Windshield washer reservoir.-LH fog lamp and side marker. The side marker's lens was cracked in the accident but is still functional.-Replacement pedal assembly.-Mixed paint and reducer for the door and fender.-Trim and clips for LH front fender and door.-Lower front trim for LH side.-Extra transmission for parts.-AC compressor bracket and condenser.-Plus a few more randoms. The Good:-The Metric Motors engine has been maintained well and should serve many more hours/miles.-Recently rebuilt front brake calipers, new front rotors installed, nd flushed brake hydraulics.-Front suspension rebuilt with new bushings and ball joints about 50,000 miles ago.-Bilstein heavy duty shocks with about 50,000 miles on them.-Motor and front and rear sub-frame mounts replaced 50,000 miles back (I think I did front engine mounts more recently than that).-Rebuilt original half-shafts.-Good hoses, oth radiator and heater. Firewall heater hoses were replaced with Benz originals a few years ago.-Just rebuilt the heater control valve.-Just installed a new water pump.-Fresh master key from Mercedes-Benz - all locks work (though the central vacuum locking system only partially works).-Original Becker radio works.-Decent rear seat. The Rest:-Good Salvage title.-Cracked windshield with bad seal.-Filler in various places, H rear door, ockers.-Front seat upholstery has some cracks and sewn repairs.-Engine needs a new front main seal.-Engine weeps oil from between the head and block up at the front, nd has done it since installation.-Rust in the rockers and front floors, little in a couple of the doors, nd some in the trunk - front jack points are no good.-Rear differential needs to be re-sealed.-Tires are getting old, ut will still serve for a few more miles.-Could use a proper batter tray welded in.No warranty is included with this purchase; sold as-is.Please ask questions prior to placing a bid. Send me your phone number and I'll call so we can chat about it. I can send a link to better and more pics. Many Thanks!
