1991 Mazda Miata Base Convertible 5-speed Electric Car Conversion EV Project

1991 Electric Mazda Miata Convertible converted to an EV by an electrical engineer. The car currently has 167k miles and has spent the last 15k+ miles under electic power. It's powered by a DC motor and 19 6-volt AGM batteries. There are twelve batteries in the trunk and seven batteries in the front. The gas filler has been replaced with a 4 wire receptacle used with the included battery charger. The car has been repainted in the original red. has a new soft top and boot cover. The car can comfortably cruise around at electric golf cart speeds. but without refreshing the batteries. the range and top speed are limited. When new. range was around 40 miles with a 70mph top speed. Switching to lithium batteries would increase performance and decrease weight. making the car much more capable for real world commuting. The body is in great shape. aside from some damage to the front bumper and scratch on the passenger fender. The driver side mirror was being repaired when photos were taken. but will be replaced prior to sale. Interior is in excellent shape for its age. but there's a hairline crack on the dash. Along with the Ground Control suspension to help with the added weight. the front brakes have been upgraded to the larger 94+ 1. 8 calipers and rotors. Team Dynamics 11-pound wheels also cut down on rotating mass. Tires have plenty of tread. The car doesn't have AC and PS has been removed with the use of a manual steering rack.
