We have a very special Mazda Efini RX-7 here from Japan, that retains its original brilliance and as-intended factory configuration. We carefully reconditioned this vehicle to ensure its prolonged longevity and enjoyment of use. All systems have been checked and gone through by our knowledgeable rotary staff, including a thorough road test to ensure everything works reliably.
With rotary engines the big question is about engine health. With this looming question we set out to compression test the engine using a digital rotary engine compression tester, and the results are as follows:
Rotor chamber compression test results (normalized to 250rpm):
Front Rotor
1st chamber: 123 PSI
2nd chamber: 121 PSI
3rd chamber: 123 PSI
122 PSI average (Normal Compression)
Rear Rotor
1st Chamber: 119 PSI
2nd Chamber: 114 PSI
3rd Chamber: 112 PSI
115 PSI average (Normal Compression)
The results show that the engine is healthy and within normal compression readings, a testament to the low mileage.
Additionally all of the drivetrain components operate perfectly, including; the clutch, transmission, and differential. Gear changes are smooth and direct with good feedback from the drivetrain.
Being in its original form, the suspension is old and tired. What is first apparent when driving this car is that the original suspension bushings are stiff, a well documented issue with an aged FD3S. This car will need new bushings throughout as well as shocks. However, in its present original condition it is safe to drive at speed and there are no abnormal vibrations on the highway. The old stiff bushings are primarily felt over bumps.
The interior is in great shape, aside from the fading on top of the rear seat cushion, the rest of the red interior has aged very well. All controls work, but the radio will need a converter to pick up US radio frequencies.
The exterior was detailed professionally and sealed with a ceramic coating. This coating provides excellent UV protection, as well as an easy to maintain gloss finish. This car looks amazing during the day, and at night. The photos speak for themselves!
