Car description |
---|
I am reluctantly selling my amazing Maserati Merak due to a new business venture.
This 1974 Merak spent its first 25 years in California. It was then in the Chicago area for 17 years where it was driven about 1000 miles total (i.e. it sat in a garage the entire time). The car had 26,302 miles on it when I bought it in June 2016. It currently has just over 30,000 miles from new.
It still has its original 3.0L V-6 engine. I had the top end of the engine overhauled, with new valves, timing chain and tensioner, and had Euro headers installed. The water pump and oil pump were rebuilt. All seals were taken care of at that time. I also had the original Paris Rhone alternator rebuilt. I put new Pirelli P4 tires on it. I had the radiator refurbished. I put a new Optima battery in it.
The car was originally orange with tan leather. It was repainted red sometime early in its life. The paint is very good, but not perfect. The car has a few rock chips on the nose, and some other minor imperfections. It has no rust. It does look good enough to have won the award for best Maserati at the Denver area Italian car show (Automezzi) in 2017.
It still has its original tan Connolly leather interior. It has a split on the back of the drivers seat and the door panels are faded. It is very usable as it is, and could be made perfect very easily. The rest of the interior is excellent. The A/C does not work and is not attached at this time. I bought a new condenser since the old one is not fixable (I still have it), but have not tried to get it working. The fuel gauge works, but is not very accurate. Otherwise everything (including the clock and power windows) works as it should.
I have put well over $15K into making the car the perfect driver that it is today. I had every intention of keeping this car for many years to come.
I have driven the car over 2700 miles in the last 2 years, and it runs perfectly and it is a true joy to drive!
A couple things of note; Unlike most 1974 Meraks, this car has the better looking- flat engine lid (like the SS model). Also, the Euro headers are an incredible upgrade, giving the car similar HP to an SS and a sound that can't be matched. All in all, it looks great and sounds even better.
It is worth noting that as a 1974 this car does not need to be smog checked, even in California!
The car comes with all service records back to 1999, an original owners manual, reprint spare parts book, and a 5th original Campagnolo magnesium wheel.
I encourage serious buyers to come drive the car. I am very confident you will buy it if you drive it.You will not find a better "driver" Merak anywhere. This car is fully sorted and ready to go.
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
