1974 Lincoln Mark IV
~California Barn find~Out of a 300 Car collection~Has been in storage for the last 39 years~Original dual matching blue plates issued with the car 44 years ago~California time capsule; you or I cannot duplicate this carthey are only original onceNO RESERVE
When it comes to vintage automobiles, California and the West Coast of the United States have always been the most desirable the world over for many reasons; the mild climate and the fact that many automotive trends started in California. The automobile is the perfect technological symbol of American culture, a tangible expression of our quest to level space, time, and class and a reflection of our relentless mobility, social and otherwise. You see automobiles advertised the world over described as California cars because at some point they were in California or drove through California. A true California car is one that was sold new in California and titled in California, one that has the original plates that are on that title is a true California car.We are liquidating a collection of 300 actual California cars. This is a collection that took 70 years to comprise. Most have the original paint and original California licence plates issued to them when they were new.
Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a beautiful 1975 Lincoln Mark IV in dark brown metallic. This Lincoln is the epitome of american excess; with a total length just over 19 feet for a 2 door coupe, compared to a 1975 Chevy suburban length of about 18 feet. The extra square footage of american steel provided a justification for the owner as the safest car, its purpose designated solelyfor the 3 hour drive to the cabin. The smooth comfortable ride only a Lincoln Mark IV can offer also made it the ideal car for trips to Lake Tahoe. The Lincoln was a 5 year old car, and before Ronald Reagantook office was locked away for the next 39 years. This car still has both the original blue California license plates that were last registered in 1980.The 1975 Continental Mark IV offered significant mechanical improvements, as well as major standard equipment additions and important new options. A new standard hydro-boost power braking system and four-wheel disc brakes were significant engineering improvements that gave the Mark IV smooth, easy-effort stops, and eliminated the need for engine vacuum to provide brake assist.Several new options in 1975 included wide band white sidewall tires, forged aluminum wheels, a Security Lock Group, premium bodyside moldings that included filigreed color-keyed vinyl inserts, and a power lumbar seat. New standard features on the Mark IV for 1975 included speed control, tilt steering wheel, power door locks and remote control decklid release. The base price for the 1975 Continental Mark IV jumped $888 to $11,082. This increase was partially due to the new higher level of standard equipment provided. With its higher level of standard equipment, the 1975 Mark IV was at its peak when it came to standard items provided at no additional charge, a fact that was emphasized in Lincoln's advertising for the year. Ads comparing new Lincolns to Cadillac on a feature by feature basis included the "No Charge" notation in the Lincoln price column, but with the additional extra cost specified in the Cadillac column, perhaps suggesting that Lincoln was the better choice of the two cars due to its higher level of standard equipment. This was not a new approach for Lincoln either, as it had provided a higher level of standard equipment in the early sixties as well, but Lincoln changed its approach in 1966 by moving formerly standard items to the options list in an attempt to be more competitive with Cadillac on the base price.f you were in the market for a new personal luxury car in 1975, and didn't want to tack a lot of optional extras onto the price, the 1975 Continental Mark IV would have been a good choice. In standard form, it was one of the best equipped cars ever built, and also one of the most distinctive available at the time. The '75 Mark IV offered a quiet, soft ride that was perfect for long trips, and it handled and braked better than most of its competition. It was at the top of its class, and the satisfaction and prestige that went with owning a Mark IV was also standard, at no charge.
Cosmetically this car is in good shape. The car benefitedgreatly from being properly stored in a climate controlled warehouse. The body is straight and free of rust. The paint shines nicely. The full vinyl top is in great shape with no rips or tears, no bubbling or any rust. All the lights are functionaland original. All the glass is original and free of any cracks. All the chrome is in good shape. Nothing is missing.
The interior this car is in good shape. The headliner is essentially flawless with no rips or sagging. The seats are in great shape with no rips or tears. The carpet is in good shape. The dash has no cracks and all the wood looks good as well as the instruments. The door panels are in good shape. Nothing is missing and everything is original.
Mechanically this car runs great. The monster 460cid v8 is powerful and runs great. The Ford c6 transmission shifts smooth in all gears. This car is equippedwith the Class III towing package. This was a $127 dollar option that included a heavier duty suspension and radiator, it came with a 3:00:1 rear axle ratio, stock dual exhaust, a wiring harness and an external transmissioncooler. 1975 was also the first year for 4 wheel disc brakes on a Lincoln.
