1972 Land Rover Series III 88: (North American Specification)Serial Number: 25900669A This truck is one of only 1. 14 Series III's sold in the U. S. in 1972. It was purchased new on November 8. 1972 from Leyland Motor Sales of Carlstadt. NJ. This is not like the many others you see for sale. imported from who knows where. right-hand drives. having been used for who knows what before it arrived in the U. S. This Series III is an original left hand drive model from the Solihull factory. specifically built for the U. S. market. I am the 3rd owner. having owned it myself since early 2007. While I have immensely enjoyed my time owning this Land Rover. and although I swore I never would. the time has come when I must give it up. I have driven it on numerous 2+ hour trips to the lake. and it has always been my trusty go-to as a second vehicle. I have upgraded the truck to serve my personal needs. and although it looks like a show truck. it's far from that. It IS a people hauler. dog hauler. always reliable. easy to fix. great looking. truck with 101. 61 original miles. All of the doors open and shut flawlessly. no slamming required. One key unlocks/locks the doors. with a separate key for the ignition. Included in the sale are the original dealership brochures. as well as the original metal stamped ID plate issued to the 1st owner in N. J. These were passed down from both owners before me. and I want to do the same. When I purchased it from the second owner in January 2007. the Land Rover was in absolute original condition. Since I have owned it. I have made the following upgrades: Repainted (original Light Green paint codes) New upholstery panels. with original seats. Custom built steel roof rack and ladder. hot-dipped galvanized. All new window channels. (Weep holes drain water perfectly!) New Weber Carburetor New Ignition / Distributor / Points New Water Pump Parabolic Springs & new shocks 6 New 16" wheels (2 spares) 6 GOODYEAR G 90 7. 50 R-16 tires. (The 4 on the ground have less than 2. 00 miles on them. and the 2 spares have never been on the road. ) New front bumper with winch mount Warn M8000 winch with remote control New fender mounted mirros New windscreen glass New turn signal stalk. When I replaced the original. the connectors must be different. as the dim-headlight position hasn't worked since. nor has the horn. This should be an easy fix. but the two things haven't bothered me. The headlights work perfectly in the bright position. and I've never had much use for the horn. The truck is factory-equipped with overdrive. and will run at 70 mph on a flat highway. That being said. it's much more enjoyable to drive on the back roads. but when necessary. it is capable. All exterior and interior lights function. including instrument cluster lights and overhead dome light. The truck runs great. and starts right up every time. It usually requires use of the manual choke lever when it's cold. nbsp;but only for a minute. Believe it or not. these old Series' actually get decent fuel mileage. I usually average 18-20 on the long road trips. The transfer case shifts in and out of low range perfectly. It will absolutely crawl in low range. 1st gear. The heater still keeps it warm on the winter drives. and the defogger keeps the glass clear. On those hot summer days. slide the windows and open the two front vents. and you'll be cooled off in no time. This Series III is ready for a new. loving home. with many more years of fun excursions ahead.
