Car description |
---|
I imported this 1993 Defender 90 LHD from Italy some time ago. It is a genuine left-hand drive with factory installed 11L 200TDI diesel engine. The miles are quite low for the year at only 97488 miles or 156893 kilometers and you can feel the pep in the engine as it goes down the road. Timing belt was changed at 143246 kilometers or 89008 miles as is noted on the fan shroud so it was less than 10k miles ago.
VIN is SALLDVAF8KA922837. A lot of work has been done to it:
Body was recently painted Coniston green.
Earlier in the year it received a new rear crossmember (the joint shows seam sealer in the last pic at the crossmember extension to chassis union, the body shop used seam sealer on all welds).
No rust on the vehicle, all rust was cut out and replaced with new metal. On the chassis, only the rear crossmember needed replacing and on the body, it was limited to a couple of spots in footwells that were cut out and patched with new metal. I have pics of the crossmember installation and painting.
Timing belt replaced within the last 10000 miles.
The steering gear (steering box) was just replaced with a rebuilt unit plus new drop arm at significant expense in July2020.
Freshly serviced (engine oil, filter, transmission fluid, coolant, differential and transfer case fluids replaced).

Easily maintains 70 to 80 mph on the freeway as a good running 200TDI should. Shifts through all gears fine, accelerates well for a turbo diesel engine of this vintage. 4 Low and HI engages fine as do the diff locks. Brakes work well. It is obviously not as fast as modern vehicles but performs well for the type of engine and vehicle it is. Please research Tdi defenders to familiarize yourself with what they are like if you are new to defenders or older 4x4s in general.
A list of all the new parts installed recently follows:
Rebuilt steering gear with new drop arm and all new power steering pipes (3 pipes- part numbers NTC9071, NTC9074, NTC 8860).
Brand new rear safari door.
New heated rear glass and 300tdi wiper motor (motor and heated glass currently not wired up but it's all new and the harness from switch to rear light box or ' rear speaker panel' as defender people call it is present, just needs connected from there to the motor and glass).
New safari door mounted spare wheel mount.
New Rover North spare wheel cover to suit 235 85 16 or 7.50 R16 (Made in USA).
Timing belt done less than 10000 miles ago.
Four pre-owned genuine boost 16x7 wheels (not aftermarket)
New Terrafirma 30mm wheel spacers.
Freshly serviced, all fluids replaced including coolant, transmission, transfer case and differentials.
New HD rear crossmember with extensions
New Terrafirma HID off road lights ( part number TF701)
New Hella rear work light
New Ring Automotive Xenon Ultima upgrade headlights (part number DA5015)
New rear bench seats in grey vinyl.
New driver's seat base cushion.
New driver's seat belt buckle.
New dash fascia trim panel.
New driver's door seal.
- New front floor mats and load area mat.
New HD metal instrument cowl (the original plastic always breaks and this is a nice upgrade, will never break again)
New dash end cap (left side)
New intermotor high pitch horn.
1.5’ diameter,50 feet manila rope
Lots of money and time has been invested into it, it is a very nice looking and running/driving 200tdi D90. There are some minor age related flaws in interior trim e.g., the center fascia has been patched in the middle (really it's a clock cutout that has been covered so a square clock can be installed and it will be fine), door cards aren't perfect. It was not a frame off restoration so naturally not every single thing is show quality. Only 'dent' is a small barely noticeable line in the rear right side of roof that could be knocked out with pdr methods if the headliner was removed, I didn't bother.
Financing for a classic vehicle is typically reserved to specialist lenders so anyone looking for financing should be aware of this. I personally know that Woodside Credit is capable of financing imported Defenders and highly recommend them for anyone considering it, they do require a 700 credit score I believe.
Vehicle sold as is, conveys with clear Virginia title in my name and associated import documents for buyer records. I can ship it anywhere at buyer's cost. Thank you for looking at this listing.
