VIN 343004073The Classic Car Gallery is proud to present this beautiful 1966 Land Rover SERIES IIa 109” STATION WAGON. THIS TRUCK WAS ONE OF FOUR SPECIALLY BUILT “ORVIS EDITION” TRUCKS. COMMISSIONED TO LANNY CLARK BY THE ORVIS COMPANY. THESE TRUCKS WERE OFFERED FOR SALE. ONE PER YEAR. IN THE ORVIS CHRISTMAS CATALOGUES. THIS WAS THE CHRISTMAS 2011 TRUCK. The ORVIS catalog describes the old Landy this way: “The trusted companion of a National Geographic photojournalist. this 1966 Land Rover has traveled the world—including an expedition to Scotland on a search for the elusive Loch Ness monster in 1976. Other destinations include an Alpine Pass rally in Switzerland in 1969; a trek to Victoria Peak. Hong Kong in 1970. and a wilderness expedition in Israel in 1975. The stories of these travels are an indelible facet of this special vehicle. yet the rigors of decades of hard-earned miles have been erased by Land Rover restoration specialist Lanny Clark. This Land Rover station wagon has undergone a complete frame-off restoration resulting in a vehicle that is prepared to take on another 45 years of adventures with the legendary. sure-footed aplomb that has made Land Rover synonymous with true adventure. ” Known by the Land Rover Community as one of the finest Rover restorers in the world. Lanny Clark of Colchester. Vermont spared no expense during the restoration of this truck; at the time of completion this truck was possibly be the nicest 109 in existence. She was offered by Orvis in their 2011 holiday catalogue and sold at auction. With very few miles driven since completion. every aspect of this truck still speaks volumes of the quality of Lanny’s well done restoration. She remains in wonderful condition. with only mild surface corrosion on some of the fasteners around and under the truck. There is no doubt that it would take a dollar number far beyond her asking price to replicate this truck; she is offered today at a deep discount from her restoration cost. The iconic BRONZE GREEN PAINT is in wonderful condition. with deep shine and luster. The interior seats were restored as close to the original as possible with the modern equivalent to the “elephant hide” material used originally in these models. The rest of the interior. in keeping with the no expense spared theme. was brought to bare metal and restored. The original 2. 25 Liter four cylinder engine underwent a full rebuild. was balanced and the valves and valve seals were updated to be compatible with today’s unleaded gas. The steering. fuel. brake. clutch. exhaust and suspension systems were replaced or rebuilt to “as-new” standards. The chassis and axle casings were epoxy primed and painted with very tough Imron paint. The transmission is in rebuilt condition with new bearings. seals. a new 1st gear. and a new intermediate shaft in the transfer case. The truck is well sorted. as only Lanny Clark can do. and is the best driving series truck we have experienced. The engine fires on the first press of the starter button. and settles down into a smooth idle. no matter what the weather. She makes good power and torque. and runs just as she would have when new back in ‘66. She features a Tropical double roof with 4 roof vents. large opening vents below the windscreen. High and Low transfer case and seatbelts for all passengers. including 3-point inertia reels for the driver and front seat passenger and matching JERRY CANS on the front bumper.
