ALL ORIGINAL 1993 Defender 110. This great 12-passenger vehicle is a versatile street or off-road vehicle.NO MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE to engine, body, or transmission; Ready for your customization or ready to drive as a turn-key original model. 100% street legal in U.S. due to its age (25 years). I have all the EPA and DOT Safety forms to prove it.- All fold-down steps to enter the vehicle are original- The original sunroof does not leak; this opens half way for a breeze or can be fully removed.- The vehicle starts perfectly every time without touching the accelerator- Smooth function in all gears; Great highway performance (I keep it around 60).- Clear U.S. title. I also have the UK Heritage certificate, and all of its previous Ministry of Transportation (MOT) inspection stickers and most original paperwork from the original owner.- Excellent heater- Though the vehicle has no A/C, the big front flaps below the front windshield force a LOT of air into the car when driving down the road. Those flaps, combined with opening the sunroof in the "vent mode" (the back end tilts up a couple of inches and latches open), provide excellent ventilation, even on hot days.- The back passenger compartment also features sliding windows so even the rear passengers get plenty of breeze.
Note: The original British VIN number may not show up in our U.S. CarFax searches, and is incompatible with EBay's listing template:VIN: SALLDHMF7LA932897VIN Fields Explained:SAL Manufacturer code: Land RoverLD Model: Defender (for early models: Ninety, or One Ten)H Wheel base: 110 inchM Body type: 4-door station wagon (LWB)F Engine type: 2.5 litre Tdi diesel, model 11L (200Tdi)7 Steering and transmission: Right-hand drive (RHD), 5-speed manualL Model year: 1993A Assembly location: Solihull, UK932897 Serial number
Vehicle History: I am an active duty Navy Officer who was serving overseas. I bought the vehicle in England in 2016 from the original owner and drove it from England to southern Italy. It performed perfectly the entire trip. I continued to drive the car around Italy, and the 12-seater performed great as a transport for Boy Scouts to their campouts. The mileage reflects light annual usage (a little more than 7,000 miles per year). The original owner was an inspector for the UK Agricultural Ministry and drove the vehicle short distances around England visiting farms, and EVERY DAY when he returned from the field the vehicle was completely washed including the undercarriage (this was a policy to ensure their agricultural inspectors didn't accidentally transport contaminated dirt from one farm to another (think Mad Cow disease). As a result, the undercarriage is very clean. Though this daily washing may also have accelerated the rusting of the bottom of the doors (see below). I have left everything original (other than minor interior upgrades noted below) since I was planning on a big project to overhaul and modify the vehicle. The challenges of my current job at the Pentagon consume most of my time (and my son has outgrown Boy Scouts), so it is better to sell to someone who will enjoy it more. As a result, it is ready to use today, or can be modified with the vast number of after-market Land Rover mods available from several companies, including roof racks, light bars, replacement grills, LED light kits, air intake snorkel, etc. The all original paint (off-white roof over "Defender Blue") is in excellent condition, other than a few areas shown in the photo where some rust and corrosion is coming through. The beauty of the Defender's aluminum skin is that the pop-rivets can be quickly drilled out, any corrosion remedied, and the panel pop-riveted back in place.
***The 200 TDI engine is THE sought-after engine for all Land Rover enthusiasts. Read up on its features and reliability before you buy a Defender. The 200 TDI is the engine you want, and at ~183,000 miles, this one is just getting broken in. The engine burns no oil, starts immediately with a smooth normal idle, and is very efficient: About 35 MPG highway. Handling is smooth and solid: Tracks in a straight line, no unusual tire wear patterns.
Repairs/upgrades made to date: - New fuel tank, fuel pump, and upper/lower tank gaskets; All Land Rover OEM parts (2017)- New carpet throughout (2016)- New Exmoor seat covers throughout (2016)- New headliner (2016)- LED tail light/brake light bulbs (2018) [just the bulbs: the lenses are original]- Rebuilt 5-speed transmission with Land Rover OEM gears; maintained original spec gear ratios (2016)
What I know is wrong with the vehicle:- The rear bumper is very rusty. OEM and aftermarket bumpers are easily replaced with a few bolts.- The rear step for passengers to get into the back seating area has been removed because it bolts into a rusty section of the bumper. (I have the original rear step and it will be included in the sale.)- The bottoms of the passenger doors are rusting...you can see the white flaking aluminum oxide coming through the paint in some areas and at the bottom of each door the metal frame is rusted. This is the well documented problem of dissimilar metal galvanic corrosion found on all Defender doors of this era: The vehicle body is aluminum, but the door frames are steel. When some rain water gets down inside the door over time, the chemistry of aluminum and steel in a wet environment plays out and rusts the bottom inch or two of the internal door frame. This is a relatively easy repair since the aluminum panes on the entire car are pop-riveted in place for easy maintenance, and several after-market companies sell the kits to replace the bottom portion of the door frame. - Some water gets in the passenger door at the top when it rains. I think this is just a need for replacement door gasket foam rubber. The gasket is in place, but is a little tired.- The light for the license plate does not work. - The current tires are fully serviceable but tread wear indicates they will need replacement in about 10,000 more miles. This tire model is a hard rubber "farm tire" consistent with the original owner's job. As a result, they are a bit noisy on the highway, and replacement with a softer all-purpose tire or an off-road tire would likely by much quieter.- One rusty spot to the left of the rear door (see photo)- Minor rust on each of the steel wheels...easily sandblasted and repainted - I do not know the condition of the winch on the front bumper. I have never tried to operate it. It may work. It may not.- Minor dents in various places in the aluminum body--all are visible in the photos- The rear window defrost does not work- The locking latch to the inside of the passenger door is missingOn Dec-02-18 at 07:55:56 PST, seller added the following information:
