Own the legend. I purchased this Rover from a private collector in South Africa and drove it to Zimbabwe sight unseen. I've had this vehicle in the bush all over Zimbabwe with no issues. This vehicle is a one of a kind--based on my research this was a 1966 knock down kit assembled in South Africa in the early 1970s as a security vehicle on a Series 3 frame so it could handle the extra armor and grenade screens. The gearbox is syncromesh'd in 3rd and 4th gear only. Inquires with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust indicated this VIN is not in their archives and research suggests the knock down kit was originally exported as a diesel variant.
The previous owner found this vehicle on a farm and performed a frame-off restoration (see pics). Since then, I've replaced the tires, fuel tank, fuel lines, and sending unit, re-built the brakes, replaced the coil and distributor, re-wired the dash, re-built the front hubs, and replaced the front shaft seal. Receipts are available for all work done in the US. I also added mud flaps, front recovery hooks, and modern amenities such as seat-belts and hazard lights. Roof rack ladder was slightly damaged during shipment to the US. Sale includes the hi-lift jack, pictured recovery gear, and Front Runner dual jerry can holder. Vehicle was recently imported into the U.S. and has since been titled, licensed, and inspected. I drive it daily for a short commute, so the odometer reading will change.
Serious bidders only--and please do your research and understand what you are buying. All questions are welcome. The vehicle is being advertised in other venues, and I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time.
