Offers for sale:

A fully restored 1990 Land Rover Defender 110 V8

This 1990 Defender 110 has undergone a complete restoration. When we imported the vehicle it was in very good condition considering its age and of course it has the original matching VIN numbers.

During the 9 month restoration project we took the vehicle down to its bare chassis and then we hand built it using the highest quality parts and attention to detail. After the build was completed our service manager drove the car daily for approximately 500 miles looking for any imperfections.

Build details:

Chassis
Firstly, we completely stripped the vehicle down to the bare chassis, then sand blasted the chassis to expose any damaged or corroded areas. Both front outriggers were replaced and the chassis was then put on a frame alignment jig to ensure everything was straight and within Land Rover specifications. The frame was then sand blasted again and had a zirconium sealer wash to prevent future rusting followed by a phosphate wash to prepare the frame for powder coating. Two high build primer coats were applied along with three coats of Henson Mag-Black powder coat. During the powder coat stage we ensured the chassis VIN was preserved.
The process is more time consuming and expensive than using a replacement chassis but it retains the original chassis VIN, along with a far superior finish than typical galvanized replacement chassis.

Drive Axles
Front and rear drive axles were completely dis-assembled to the bare housings and then de-greased and sand blasted. Our technicians thoroughly inspected both axles to ensure that they were straight without bends, cracks or deformities. Next came the zirconium sealer wash and phosphate wash then two high build primer coats and three coats of Henson Mag-Black powder coat.
After this they came back into our machine shop to be re-assembled. We replaced all seals, gaskets, bearings & races, crush sleeves, washers, drive flanges etc. Once assembled the backlash, rotational torque and gear mesh were set with a dial indicator to OE specifications.

Suspension
All the original suspension was removed. After extensive testing and experience we now always install Terrafirma All Terrain springs, spring retention clamps, shocks, shock struts and control/link arms. All bushings are replaced with a polyurethane version for a much longer life. The suspension now sits 2" higher than stock to allow room for the slightly oversized tires. This also gives the vehicle more suspension travel when needed.

Brakes
All the brake components on the vehicle were replaced with new parts: calipers, pads, rotors, brake lines and connections, servo (booster), master cylinder, drums, shoes etc. Safety is our utmost priority and so after assembly the vehicle brakes were tested on a brake roller testing machine which measures the braking effectiveness. We ensure that every vehicle meets or exceeds OE braking specifications.

Engine
The Rover 3.5 gas (petrol) V8 was thoroughly tested including compression testing, cylinder leak down testing and oil sample. We do this prior to removal to fully understand the health of the engine before restoration.
After removal from the vehicle the engine was cleaned and degreased. All ancillaries were removed and then the engine was sent to our machine shop for disassembly. From a bare block, the machine work of the block and cylinder heads began. All bearings, seals, gaskets, etc. were then replaced with new parts, the engine was re-assembled, given a fresh coat of heat resistant paint and fluids installed. Valve clearances received final adjustment and then it was brought back to our restoration shop to be installed.

Transmission & Transfer Case

The transmission was removed from the vehicle and then sent over to our machine shop for a complete rebuild. All bearings, seals, gaskets etc. were replaced with new parts and fluid installed. During reinstallation a new clutch kit was installed.

Body
The body had been removed from the chassis and then fully disassembled. Every panel was then inspected for deficiencies. We installed five new doors and replaced the body molding caps. Every part was soda blasted to remove all old paint and provide a fresh surface ready for the new paint.
Our paint department takes over three weeks to paint a Defender. We begin with an aluminum direct zinc primer which is wet sanded and blocked for a smooth finish. Then four coats of direct metal primer are applied. In between each coat, the vehicle is wet sanded and blocked again to ensure to smooth finish. We then apply four coats of base color to the vehicle with the same wet sand and block in between coats. Finally three coats of clear coat are applied.
The body is then reassembled with every seal and gasket replaced. Once the vehicle is completed our in-house detailer completes a paint finishing process which involves hours of sanding and buffing/polishing to produce mirror like paint finish.

Interior
We started by completely sound deadening the whole vehicle: roof, doors, floor, bulkhead etc. This reduces sound transmission and also helps with insulation. We then fitted the refinished headliner and all of the interior trim along with dash, center console, radio, speakers, seat belts etc. We installed an Exmoor Trim premium seat set including completely new frames. The doors received with brand new door glass, window regulators, lock sets, door panels and upgraded aluminum billet door hardware.
Every single component was either replaced with new or completely restored. We used the Alpine double din touch screen radio along with focal speakers and tweeter, we also installed a backup camera to assist with parking. To finish the interior off we installed genuine Land Rover mats in the 1stand 2ndrows.

Wheels & Tires
We installed five Land Rover 18" saw tooth alloy wheels in black, fitted with BFG all- terrain tires. The wheels have matching center caps and black premium lug nuts.

Extras
Panoramic Glass: Full wrap around panoramic glass was installed on the rear. This makes the inside brighter and quieter. It also gives the vehicle a very modern look.
KBX Grill: Full KBX upgraded grill set to enhance the frontal view of the vehicle.
LED Lights: Complete LED light kit including the headlights.

Upgraded Front Bumper: This bumper is stronger and gives a modern look and feel.
Short Shift Kit: During the transmission rebuild we replaced all the bushings and added a short shift kit. This makes the shifting feel like a modern vehicle.
Rock Sliders: These not only look great but they also act as a step up into the vehicle. They provide support if you do decide to take the vehicle off road. The rock sliders are solid steel and are very strong. They were also powder coated for extra durability.
Puma Hood:We replaced the standard hood with a genuine metal Puma style hood.
Exmoor Trim Interior Package:An Exmoor Trim premium interior set replaced the carpet, handbrake cover and shift gaiter.

Swing Away Spare Wheel Carrier: A swing away rear wheel carrier is the best way to mount a heavy spare wheel.
