Car description |

1992 RRC, 101101 miles (really). Virtually rust free (see the pictures) This is a base model truck, only 5 pieces of wood in the interior, no ABS and coil springs from the factory. It does have the original R12 air conditioning that did work before this saga began. Leather interior in great shape, headliner about 5 years old. The guy before me had seat covers and the dash toupee on it for as long as he owned it, so since about 1995. (The seat covers eventually died from the sun, but the toupee lives on.) Power windows, power seats, and sunroof all work. Original Pembroke grey paint has lost its luster from the sun but looks cool and rugged as it is. ARB front winch bumper and ARB rear heavy duty bumper along with an adapter for actually towing a trailer. Warn M8000 winch that was freshened up about 5 years ago including a new high flexibility steel cable. Snorkel is fully functional, not just for looks. The coil springs are a HD upgrade, about a 2” lift.
As with all Rovers, it has a story. This truck was sold new in Virginia, Washington DC area. When it was about 2 years old it was fully outfitted as you see it now and shipped to Africa. She spent a few years there before being brought back to the US and immediately stuck in an outside storage lot in DC for another 3+ years. The owner eventually resurrected it and drove it here in VA for a short time, then I was lucky enough to have the chance to buy it. Lucky me!
So why for sale? This thing is SWEET! Yes it is, but this old girl and I have been fighting each other for the last 3+ years and I'm no longer in love. She needed a motor as the original 3.9l was losing oil pressure. I had built a 4.2l for another project and decided to use it here instead. Performance cam, Cloyes double roller chain, ARP head studs, Hastings rings, money money money. Yeah...., it frigging knocked when it warmed up! Took it out, stripped it to parade rest, found nothing. Sent the engine to a racing based machine shop, they found nothing except a questionable oil pump. New oil pump, new rings, money money money, put it back in - knock knock knock. At this point I've exhausted every possibility I can think of and believe there is a sleeve moving once it warms up. Yeah, I know, should have done a top hat from the beginning, but hey, this is a 4.2l, how often do they have sleeve issues? Or is it an African curse?
So here it is for sale. I'm done, reached my limit, lost my love affair. Time for her to find a new owner. You will be very hard pressed to find a cleaner, more complete, rust free truck than this. The only rust I know of is 2 small areas in the front footwells, drivers side was patched years ago, passenger side untouched. Aside from the Africa dirt everywhere the frame and underside are super clean.
The Good: LOW miles – 101101! Super clean and straight frame and body. Only rust I know of is what I stated above. New drag link and tie rod ends. New exhaust from the converter Y-pipe back. New headliner, all original interior in great shape. Rubber floor mats, rubber cargo mat, cargo cover still there. Snorkel, ARB front and rear bumpers, Warn M8000 winch. Tailgate is super clean – not perfect but very good. Including factory service manual and parts manual in the sale. You’ll also have a variety of mandatory extra acquired parts stacked in the back.
The Bad: The newly twice rebuilt engine knocks / taps / talks loudly to you when it warms up. The catalytic converters were hacked out when it went to Africa, then poorly reinstalled when it came back to the US. Their guts disappeared somewhere along the line so right now they are hollow test pipes and will need replaced to make the truck emissions legal.
The FYI: The BFG All terrain tires on it look good, but they are about 15 years old. I’d put new ones on before too long, but that’s me. The swivels leak a little oil – the swivel balls look good and the truck has never been converted to CV grease. The radio has not worked since I’ve owned it. The windows were all ‘etched’ by what I think was acid rain / pollution from the time sitting unattended in DC. I replaced the windshield and have new glass included in the sale for most of the other windows to eventually replace them too. It has a funny hesitation at times, been there since I’ve owned it, but I wasn’t going to worry about that until the motor was dealt with. I suspect possibly a distributor issue, even though I installed a remote mounted ignition module. It has 1 accident repair I am aware of; the RH rear quarter was repaired prior to 1995 after the original owner was hit by another car. I think they used an angry beaver to gnaw the whole in the cowl for the snorkel, but I’m including a good used cowl in the sale.
I'm sure there is more, but if you read this far you are pretty determined and have questions of your own. Ask them and I'll let you know. I have more pictures than Ebay will let me put on, again, send me an email and I forward them on. No matter what, this is a 25 year old British truck and it is not perfect. I try to give an honest representation of things as I know them. Truck runs and drives right now, easy to load on a trailer for the trip home. Buyer 100% responsible for pick up in Williamsburg, VA 23188. $300.00 PayPal deposit required with 48hrs, balance in cash or cashiers check on or before pickup.
