Car description

1966 Series IIA, 109 (LWB) Land Rover 4WD 5-door Station Wagon, Left Hand Drive, North American Version 74,850 miles on running gear, 600 mi on new engine. Dark Green with safari limestone white top. 12 VDC Electrical.

This is originally a California vehicle with hardly any rust. Purchased in 2010 and driven very little mostly on country roads and not taken in rough off-roading situations. After owningit 4 years, I decided to have a conversion to more power and also replace the olddifficult to turn steering with power steering and replace the non-synch transmission with a Series 3 manual synchronized transmission as well as add a better power brake module. It is now a pleasure to drive and will cruise at 60. I have put about 600 miles on the new engine in the 10 months since I got it back with the mods. The motor is a GM 2.5, 4 cylinder with a 2-barrel Weber carbwhich pulls hills nicely with decent gas mileage. The motor builder, who has done manylike this says it will reach 70 but I have not tried that, as I don’t travel roads with that speed limitwhile driving in the mountains of Western Virginia. The engine installation and the transmission, power steering and power brake modifications and installations were all done by one of the best Land Rover mechanics in the US, and the result has been very satisfying.

It also has a new radiator and it came with new black vinyl upholstery. It comes with a rear door spare tire mounting bracketthat I removed that you can re-install in case you want to mount it there. I keep the spare inside the back as it is heavy to lift the hood with it or on the rear door. All gauges and heater work. Upholstery and other work was done in California by British Pacifica year before I got it so it is like new.

The 4x4 part-time (front engaged manually with lock out hubs), transfer case works fine. You may want to consider re-installing the Farley overdrive which was removed during the mod which comes with it if you are going to do a lot of higher speed driving. I don’t do that, so opted to leave it off as they make a whining noise and is not needed for my use in driving through the country backroads and mountains of Western Virginia. I have not had it in any off-road contest or events or driven it in a lot of salt. It has been garage kept for the last 6 ½ years since I got it.

The Series IIA is widely regarded as the toughest Series model constructed and most desirable due to the “look” as seen in many old movies about African safaris. It comes with the original safari roof. The patina of the paint on this 109 looks like it just came off Safari rather than the showroom floor.

Clean Title, insurance and tags up to date.

Sale includes all original parts removed in case you want to restore it to original which includes all the original Land Rover 4 cylinder inline engine with 74,000 original miles, 4 speed transmission, manual steering parts, air filter and Farley overdrive. I will guarantee with a 50% warranty paying up to $500 on a $1000 or more repair bill on engine and running gear problems experienced within the first 30 days or 1000 miles, whichever comes first. If you have problems and you do the work yourself, I will compensate you if you itemize and price thework fairly. Don't worry - I am a man of my word and will stand behind this guarantee.

I will miss the fun of drivingmy Landy but am getting old and downsizing. Also I don't use it enough with 5 other vehicles to drive. Serious inquiries only as I don’t have to sell it and don’t like to haggle or have time to waste.
